THE SHEPHERD'S VOICE
May 14, 2020
This Week at
St. Robert Catholic School!
Dear Parents,

Happy May and Happy Spring! It seems like it has been a very long time since we were all together at school!

The teachers and I would like to thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for making Teacher Appreciation Week so wonderful! We felt extra loved and spoiled last week! Thanks to all of you for the Amazon and Restaurant Gift Cards!

I was looking back at my calendar and realized that 2 years ago this week was the "official" groundbreaking ceremony for our school! I can't believe all that has happened since then!

Although this "school interruption" time has been filled with stress and many challenges, I would like to focus on what have been the silver linings in my life, and I hope that you might see some similar silver linings in yours.

The biggest of all silver linings has been that Mr. Peters has been home since the school closure! As your children know due to our "Where in the World is Mr. Peters" map, he traveled about 15 weeks between the start of school last August and March 13. It has been a huge blessing to have him home!

Another silver lining is that we have been cooking dinner at home together instead of eating out! We have found a joy in cooking and grilling while at home!

We have spent hours on Zoom calls with our siblings and parents and are enjoying this extra time to be together. I don't know why we didn't do this before now!

We have found enjoyment in daily tasks! We are working on finishing our basement, although slowly, and are really enjoying working in the yard. We love to walk around it each day and look at what is in bloom! We have not had time to do that the past couple of springs!

Although we miss going to the gym, we do try and get out and take long walks several days a week. This has allowed us to connect with our neighbors more than in the past.

And of course, we have had a lot more time for prayer! Even though we cannot go to Mass right now, we are making sure that our faith is still at the center of all we do!

These are just a few of the blessings that God has given us over these past weeks and although it has been hard, we are grateful for this time. I hope you are finding similar blessings in your lives!

Peace,
Liz
Virtue of the Week... Loyalty
This week we are learning about the Virtue of Loyalty- Accepting the bonds implicit in relationships; defending virtues upheld by church, family and country.
Parent/Teacher Touch-Base Opportunity

Mrs. Peters and our amazing teachers have been working hard to stay connected to your students during this unusual time via daily Pledge and Prayer and story time, Live Facebook lessons, Zoom meetings, and assignments.

In addition, the staff would also like to connect with you, our parents. These are not conferences, we just want to make sure you are okay! Use this call to:

  • Catch up with your child's current teacher or ask questions about school work.

  • Consider scheduling a call with next year's teacher to learn more about her and her vision for the class.

Preschool - Mrs. Sass
Young 5s - Mrs. Dinneweth
Kindergarten - Miss Wiser

  • Let a specials teacher know how much you appreciate the extra lessons they provide.

Mrs. Russell - Gym
Miss VerDuin - Art

  • Check in with Mrs. Peters...she is happy to answer questions about the fall...if she can! There is still so much to figure out!

Our staff members would be happy to schedule a brief 10 minute meeting with one or both parents via phone, Zoom, or Google Meet at your convenience, within the next few weeks. We recognize that your current "stay at home" schedules can be crazy and the staff will do their best to accommodate your requested meeting date/time.

The Home & School Associate invites you to join our All-School Zoom Meetings planned for each morning next week during our Pledge and Prayer time beginning at 9:00 am.
We also invite you to take pictures as you do each activity and share them with Mrs. DeWildt and Mrs. Peters. They will make sure they get posted on Facebook!

A Peek at the Planning
for End of School Year
"Virtual F u n W e e k "

The final week of school will be Monday,
June 1 - Friday, June 5. Per our original teaching plan, the focus will be on fun activities rather than a full schedule of academic learning. We want to celebrate our school community and reward our students for completing a challenging and out-of-the box school year. Due to the current CDC guidelines and the extended stay-at-home order we are anticipating that our "Fun Week" will have to be done in a virtual format.

Here are some of the activities we are working on for "Virtual Fun Week"...

  • Crazy Hat Day
  • Zoom Picnic
  • Beach Day
  • Virtual Field Day
  • Zoom Dance Party

More information to come as we get closer to June!
