"If angels could be jealous of men, they would be so for one reason: Holy Communion."
-St. Maximilian Kolbe
Dear St. Rose School Families,
The weeks are passing quickly with many exciting things happening. Congratulations to our newly confirmed 8th Graders. God certainly smiled down on your special day with sunshine and blue skies. May the Holy Spirit be your constant guide in life.
Tomorrow the church will be filled with our precious second graders as they receive First Holy Communion. Our prayers are with them and their families on this special day in their faith journey. Thanks to Mrs. Heyder for preparing the children so beautifully -- they are truly ready to receive the Lord.

It has been a remarkable year and the fact that we have been on site for the majority of it is quite outstanding. This is due to teamwork from all parts of our school and community. Bricks make wonderful gifts to mark special occasions, connect to the past and pave the way to bright futures. Please share the word with family, friends, parishioners and alumni who might be interested. There is more information in this newsletter and on our website. Thank you.
Over the next month we will be having some small, safe meet and greets for students and parents who are joining us in the 2021-2022 school year. We know you will give them a warm St. Rose School welcome. We are delighted that our school family is expanding and look forward to continuing this incredible learning journey together.
Congratulations to our students who made the Honor Roll this quarter and to all students for persevering in their studies. Thanks to our dedicated teachers for their steadfast commitment to helping every child reach their God given potential.

Dear St. Rose Families,
Happy Friday and last day of April!! It is that time of year to bring out that famous Dr. Seuss quote:
How did it get so late so soon? It's night before its afternoon. December is here before its June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?
As we head into the month of May, one of our busiest months of the year, we begin with one of the most blessed and endearing events of our school year! The spiritual journey of our children is one that brings joy and awe to our community; and tomorrow we will be thinking of and praying for our second graders as they receive their First Eucharist! A day when they will experience and feel the presence of Jesus in a new way; one that will enrich their lives and bless them forever with many graces and lasting happiness! We pray for all those receiving their First Eucharist…
Lord Jesus, Bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time. May this day be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist. Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship. Thank you for their innocence and goodness. May their hands, extended in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament.
Congratulations to our children and their families!
After two Sacrament Saturdays, our 8th and 2nd grade buddies will join together this coming Wednesday for a joyful celebration of friendship, crafts, and a treat!
Important News and Reminders for Our Soon to be Graduates
Flippin’ for Our Class of 2021
On Tuesday, Mrs. Thorne will reprise her role in the kitchen, not serving up lunch, but flippin’ pancakes for our 8th graders. This will be a dress down day, with their 100 Days T-shirt, as we begin the countdown from 33 days until Graduation!!
We’re in the RED…
In a good way….On our calendar for 8th grade is Red Carpet Day on May 21st and Red Nose Day (school wide, hosted by the Class of 2021) on May 27th.
And They’re Off...
Start gathering your future high school t-shirts, hoodies, and banners for an Off to High School celebration the week of May 10th. We are excited to reveal where all of our 8th graders are headed on their next journey!
DVD for Class Night.
Mrs. Petrillo is asking all 8th grade parents to submit TEN individual digital photos of their son or daughter. These pictures typically span from baby pictures (baby pictures will also be used on their yearbook page) to the current school year. Photos of special events and other family members are highly encouraged. Pictures can be sent to Mrs. Petrillo firstname.lastname@example.org by May 7th. A separate email can be sent including past field trips or school events to be considered for the DVD. If you would like to assist with the task of putting the 8th grade DVD together please contact Mrs. Petrillo.
More Plans are Underway
We are still finalizing plans for the Bunny Bowl; Class Night; and the last days for our 8th graders, so stay tuned!
Ending One Year and Planning for the Next
Let’s begin with the announcement of our annual Field Day; while we will make some changes to this much anticipated day, it is exciting to know that we will be able to bring this tradition back to end the school year! We have moved the date from June 9 (which is now a full day of school) to June 14 (early dismissal day). More details will be sent in the upcoming weeks! Kindergarten and 8th grade will have their own Field Days planned due to their early graduation dates.
We also realize that our parents might be looking for programs this summer, especially to help with review and reinforcement of academic skills. At this time we are considering offering several academic options for the summer; as well as a few other clubs. A minimum enrollment would be required so at this time I am gathering information to determine interest in attending an academic program to work on skills. Please contact me at email@example.com with your child(ren)’s name, grade level(s), and academic area(s) that you would like us to offer. Once we determine the interest level, we will announce more information about the programs and dates.
Summer work, supply lists, and other information in preparation for next school year will be shared as we get closer to the end of May.
Celebrations and Gratitude
Congratulations to our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders who achieved Honor Roll for the third quarter! They were recognized, and received their certificates, today after mass.
Congratulations to our fifth grade Cub Scouts from Pack 570, who recently bridged over to become Boys Scouts of Troop 70! We are proud of our new Boys Scouts: Tomas Almeida, Luke Budzynski, Christian Fappiano, Liam Kirkman, and Kenneth McGahren!! We also send out a shout of gratitude to Mr. Chris Kirkman, who has served as their Den Leader for the past five years; and to all the families for their dedication to the program and their scouts!
Thank you to those who shared pictures of their children and pets for National Kids and Pets Day! If you missed the sharing please visit our Instagram “srsnewtownct”. We are also highlighting our Class of 2021; so please stop by and meet our soon to be graduates on our Instagram!
As we head into the last weeks of this very unique school year, I want to thank our families for their continued support; especially for adhering to our safety protocols. Together we have kept our classrooms open for most of the school year!! We look forward to being able to end the year, in-person and share those traditions and fun last day experiences with our children!
April is leaving us with sunshine, and some windy weather. May will greet us with sunshine and smiles!! Have a blessed and relaxing weekend! Happy May Day!!
Second graders decorated their chalice and gift bags in preparation for First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 1st.
