Dear St. Serra Parents,

As we hit the halfway point of May, I am looking forward to the end of year events that we have planned for St. Serra. This coming Thursday, May 20, we are having our annual Golf Tournament. This is the final fundraising event of the year, and there has been a lot of hard work put in by our parent volunteers to ensure that it is another successful event that will benefit our school and students.

We also have planned a ‘New Family Night’ for Wednesday, May 26. Our goal is to welcome our incoming new families to St. Serra and give them some insight about the upcoming school year. There has been an overwhelming response from families for this event, and we look forward to meeting them and making them feel welcome and a part of our great St. Serra family.

Our Principals, Mrs. Reiss and Mrs. Radzai, continue planning the events that will close out the school year including Field Day, Kindergarten and Eighth grade graduations and other fun activities. We are very grateful to be able to have these events, even though they are somewhat modified due to the necessary protocols. It is also exciting to see the guidelines and protocols ‘loosen’ up as we move ahead. I look forward to these events and activities as we want to recognize and celebrate our students’ enduring hard work and success this past school year.

Always Striving,

Tim Tolzda
Sr. Principal
Curriculum Surveys
Parents, please take a few minutes to let us know about your child’s learning needs for the upcoming school year by taking our survey. Please take the survey for the grade/level your child will be in for the upcoming 2021- 2022 school year. If you have more than one child in our school, you will need to take the survey for the upcoming school year for each of your children using the links below. Each spring we use these surveys to plan for curricular needs and place students in homerooms for the upcoming school year. Learning more about your child’s personality and learning style will better ensure proper homeroom placement by our educational team. Please know that due to the diverse learning needs found within every grade level at St. Junipero Serra Catholic School, one of our placement objectives is to balance the homerooms with a variety of students. Please keep in mind that we do not take teacher requests and we do not guarantee any requests. Click "Read More" for survey links. Thank you!
ELA and Math Placement for Students in Grades 1-7
Each year we use the data pieces from the placement handout to place students in the appropriate level of English Language Arts (ELA) and Math classes. Letters indicating placement for Grades 2-8 will be sent out mid-August. Parents of students who are placed in small group classes will receive an email by the end of June to inform them of review work that will need to be done over the summer.

For the past several years, it has been our practice to assess and place first-grade students into the advanced plus and small group ELA classes during the first month of the new school year. We will continue that practice in the 2021-2022 school year. New students will be assessed and placed into the appropriate level ELA and Math classes at the beginning of the school year as well. Please be sure to communicate to your children that it is still important for them to remain engaged and doing their best through the remainder of this school year. Placements are fluid, and students are considered for movement within levels during the school year based on performance.
COVID-19 Protocol & Student Symptom Decision Tree
The CDC and the Orange County Health Care Agency continually review and adjust their suggested practices and protocols based on emerging information about COVID-19. This memo is to announce some important changes regarding St. Serra’s COVID-19 protocols based on CDC and OCHCA guidance. Effective January 1, 2021, St. Serra has updated the return-to-school policy when a student is exposed to COVID-19. Click the image to view the Symptom Tree.

Safe Environment Online Training Renewal
We are finding that a lot of our parents’ Safe Environment Training Certificates have expired over this past year, and with us moving towards allowing more volunteers on campus, we need to remedy this as quickly as possible. This is where you can help.
