Happy 4th of July. On behalf of the Priests of the Cathedral, we wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable holiday.
Even though school is over for this school year, the youth of the parish had a had busy week! Eleven STM teens joined ranks with 1,300 teens and adults from parishes around the Diocese during WorkCamp this week. Arlington Diocesan WorkCamp provides teens with the opportunity to experience direct service to the community within the diocese's boundaries. Campers working with licensed contractors help those in need by painting homes, fixing decks, and making repairs to homes. The life and spiritual skills learned over this week will last forever.
Additionally, twenty-six students attended Vacation Bible School this week assisted by thirteen parish youth and six adult volunteers. The students enjoyed learning bible stories, making crafts, touring and learning about the Cathedral, and many more exciting experiences. The week culminated with the students completing a service project by packing over 200 lunch meal packs for students in need. Thank you to all who donated items and helped make this service project a success.

What is Eucharistic Adoration?
The Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of the Lord, Jesus Christ, and it is one of seven sacraments of the Catholic Church, whereby bread and wine are completely transubstantiated into the real presence of Christ. During Eucharistic Adoration, the Eucharist is displayed in a monstrance (a vessel used in Roman Catholicism to display the consecrated Eucharist) flanked by candles in which the Blessed Sacrament is exposed and adored by the faithful.
Why is Adoration so important?
Adoration is YOUR personal time with Jesus Christ. It integrates the entire faith community of St. Thomas More into prayer, uniting us in our intentions and concerns, increasing our prayer time and devotion. Many miracles and blessings have been associated with adoration.
Eucharistic Adoration is every Thursday from 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and adorers can either choose to commit for the same hour each Thursday, or they can simply stop by for a visit, no commitment required.
If you are interested in participating or have questions, contact the rectory at (703)525-1300, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
How Do I Arrange a Mass Intention at the Cathedral?
To arrange a Mass intention, stop by the rectory and speak to our receptionist Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The suggested stipend is $10.00 for each intention. You will receive a Mass card for each intention in which you can write the date and time of the Mass.
At the Cathedral of St. Thomas More, it is not our policy to announce at Mass the name of the person who is being remembered with a particular Mass intention. The Mass intentions are listed in the bulletin and on the website.
