Father Vaccaro will be leaving the Cathedral and will begin his ministry at Nativity Church in Burke. Father Vaccaro will celebrate the 11:00 am Mass at the Cathedral on June 25, followed by a reception in Lee Hall. Hope you can join us wishing him farewell.

The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members, developed by prayer and active cooperation in Mary’s and the Church’s evangelizing work, under the guidance of a priest.
There are two categories of membership:
- Active Members — Meet weekly for prayer, to report on work done during the past week and to plan on work to be done. Members commit to two hours of apostolic work per week and to praying the Magnificat daily. Examples of the work of Active Members during the past year includes: teaching in the parish religious education program for children, bringing the Pilgrim Virgin statue to the homes of parishioners, door-to-door evangelization and delivering the parish bulletins to area hotels.
- Auxiliary Members— Commit to praying daily the prayers of the Legion (contained in a short pamphlet called the Tessera); basically, this is; a Prayer to the Holy Spirit, the Rosary, the Magnificat, and a concluding prayer for apostolic faith.
The Cathedral has two Adult Presidiums and a Junior Presidium (for children ages 7 to 17)

Help Feed the Hungry Children this Summer!
Vacation Bible School and the Lucy Project Team Up to provide meals for Kids in Need
Focusing on the Catholic Response to hunger in our diocese, this summer, the Cathedral will participate in The Lucy Project initiative to feed Hungry Children.
Every Catholic will have an opportunity to live out his/her faith by engaging in this outreach to the hungry. As Christ said:
‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ (Matt 25:40)
The Vacation Bible School under the direction of Lynn Jones, Director of Religious Education, will be spearheading this initiative. Campers will help pack breakfast and lunch meal packs for kids throughout the Diocese who during the school year receive free breakfast and lunch. The food pack will contain a well-balanced nutritious meal. You can drop off your donations in Burke Hall after all Masses beginning on June 10, 2017. There will be boxes marked located near the entrance for this effort.
If you would like to help with this effort, we are looking for donations of the following items:
- Single Service size shelf stable boxed milk or chocolate milk
- Individual packs of Goldfish
- Single serving cracker packs
- Individual peanut butter ‘to go’ cups
- Vacuum sealed tuna packs
- Single serving cans of tuna/chicken/Vienna sausage

A Call to Action - Prayers Needed
St. Thomas More School is missing the smiling face of Mrs. Menacho at morning drop off. Over Memorial Day Weekend, she and her husband, Juan Carlos, learned that he has an inoperable brain tumor. She is devastated, but resolute, and will be strong for her husband and 7th grade son, Sean, during this tremendously difficult time. Earlier this week, Juan Carlos underwent surgery to alleviate pressure and allow his medical team to retrieve a sample of his tumor to biopsy and determine treatment options. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, but he has a tough road of recovery and treatment ahead. Although this is a grim prognosis, the Menacho family believes all things are possible through God.
Our beloved Mrs. Menacho is a private person and an extremely faithful woman. She and her husband were actually planning a dream trip to Fatima, Spain and Lourdes prior to Juan Carlos' diagnosis. Unfortunately, they have had to cancel their plans, but doctors are hopeful Juan Carlos will be able to take this trip after he has recovered from surgery and completed a daily radiation protocol that will last six weeks. While this trip might be a financial strain considering the cost of medical expenses, it would be such an amazing blessing for the Menacho family to be able to bring Juan Carlos to the healing waters at Lourdes and a powerful opportunity to continue their prayers for a miracle.
Our children have all basked in the healing support and love of Mrs. Menacho at one time or another during their years at STM. Mrs. Menacho asks for nothing, but deserves EVERYTHING and we know that our supportive STM Community can help. Most importantly, please keep the Menacho family in your daily prayers. She and her husband have particular devotions to Saint Teresa of Calcutta and Saint John Paul the Great - please pray for their intersession for Juan Carlos.
In addition to all of our prayers, the STM PTO has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help provide financial means for the family to use as they navigate this difficult time period and toward their healing trip to Lourdes. Please support the Menacho family in any way you can, and feel free to share with faithful family and friends whom you believe would be willing to help this lovely family.
