Important Letter from Council President Art Wahl
Dear Family and Friends of St. Thomas:

On August 7th we will be holding a Special Congregational meeting with one agenda item. The congregation will vote on whether to issue a call to Pastor Kari Rinas to become our full time Pastor here at St. Thomas. The call committee recommended her unanimously to the Church Council, the Church council unanimously agreed with their recommendation, and now is asking the congregation to give their approval to Call Pastor Kari.
She will be here this Sunday, July 31, to lead us in worship, share a sermon message, and then visit in the Fellowship Hall after the service. I hope you will be able to join us and have the opportunity to meet her this week. The meeting on August 7 will follow the Sunday service.
All members of St. Thomas are invited to participate in this exciting time. Keep praying for all of us and our congregation. We look forward to seeing you!

May God continue to bless us and keep us in his favor!
-Art
 A Bit About Pastor Kari . . .

Pr Kari Rinas spent much of her formative years growing up outside of Rochester, New York, where she also went to college, but has also lived in Pennsylvania (twice), Connecticut, and Ohio. She is a graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York (2007) where she studied Medieval and Renaissance History and European Studies with a focus in European literature. She attended seminary at the former Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (2011). She was ordained on June 18, 2011, and began her first call at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Willimantic, CT.
She met Pr Joshua Rinas at a Bishop's Convocation in October 2011, and they were married on May 9, 2015 at the congregation Joshua was serving as pastor, First Lutheran Church in Southington, CT. Pr Kari began her second call as interim at Zion Lutheran Church in Portland CT just before their wedding, and was called as their pastor in September 2016, just before their son, Caleb was born in December.
Their daughter, Lyanna, was born in August 2019, and just before Christmas 2019, the Rinas family moved to Toledo, OH, as Pr Kari was called as co-pastor to St Luke's Lutheran Church in Temperance, MI.
Pr Kari is excited to see what the Spirit is doing next in her own life, and to explore with St Thomas where God is calling and to see what God's future holds!
Outside of her professional work, Pr Kari enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, cooking, and reading. She can often be found singing along with the radio and dancing (badly!) around the house while cleaning or making dinner. She and Joshua also have a shared interest in working on home improvement projects. As a family, the Rinases are frequent visitors to the zoo,.... Caleb and Lyanna both love Sesame Street and Paw Patrol and enjoy playing outside. Caleb will turn 6 in December and likes drawing and superheros. Lyanna will be 3 in early August and adores all things Frozen, singing, and dancing (and doing everything her big brother does).
The next time you
are at church,
take a minute to admire
our Memorial Garden.

t is so beautifully maintained and has some exquisite flowers blooming!
Our Beautiful
Memorial Garden
Just one of the special perks
at St. Thomas!
The July 22 Island Market was another big success with vendors and shoppers. It was a beautiful and warm afternoon, but that did not keep the market down. Adding to the specialness was a fabulous performance
at the conclusion of the market by Krista Ewbanks' Open Theatre group.
St. Thomas has 2 more Island Markets this year -
August 26 and September 23.

Plan on being a part of them - as a helper, vendor or buyer!
THANKS
to
LINDA PARRILL
St. Thomas is immensely grateful to
our own Linda Parrill
for donating a lovely big refrigerator to our kitchen. Thanks to her generosity, our request was filled within a minute of being mentioned during
Sunday announcements!
Happy Birthday!
