The mission of St. Vincent de Paul High School is to educate students through a college preparatory curriculum that develops their spiritual, academic, and social potential. As a Catholic school, we teach Gospel values and ideals and provide opportunities for our students to experience and grow in their faith. Our goal is for students to become compassionate, responsible and active members of their communities.
Message From Our New President
Mr. Tom Coughlan
Dear St. Vincent de Paul Community,
I am thrilled to be addressing you as the first President of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Schools. It is truly an honor to be assuming the responsibility for not only one, but two great schools with such rich history and tradition in Sonoma and Marin Counties.
The elementary school has been in existence for almost 130 years, and the 2017-18 school year will mark the 100th anniversary for the high school. Both schools continue to provide a strong Catholic education focused on "Faith, Academics and Service" and where students "Enter to Learn and Leave to Serve". In my new role as President, I look forward to supporting these long-standing goals for our students, as their success is our ultimate mission.
In the weeks ahead, I will be busy working with faculty and staff to build out plans for the coming year at both schools. During this process, I look forward to meeting as many families as possible. My hope is to form partnerships with families and their students, so that all can experience the best that St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Schools have to offer.
Even though I have only been a part of the St. Vincent de Paul community for a short time, I can clearly see the potential to build upon our excellent legacy. In the weeks and months to come, I hope to work together to highlight these qualities that make St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Schools so special and differentiate us as two premier schools in the Petaluma area.
While there is a lot of work ahead, I am confident that the St. Vincent de Paul community and its schools have a very bright future.

Kym McNicholas, Class of 1993
Interviewed by Analise Silva, Class of 2017
Emmy Award Winning Newscaster, Kym McNicholas '93, transferred to SVHS her junior year. McNicholas said it was Ms. Donovan's support and encouragement to not write in a formulaic style, but to embrace writing from the heart, along with Mr. Deshazer's countless hours explaining new concepts after school that she learned to fight for what she believed in. That's not all, McNicholas accounts all of her confidence that has given her a journalism career to these St. Vincent teachers as well. "I would not be where I am today if not for St. Vincent's," Kym admitted.

"I love debate," she acknowledges. "I like the intellectual competition and I love the research. The best part is the friends I've made all over the country through debate."
It was debate that led her to St. Vincent. "It was the only place in the North Bay that had debate," she explains. It is a decision she has never regretted. "I loved St. Vincent," she says. "I like it being a small school where you know everybody."
