William & Mary: Cohen Career Center Services & Updates

This semester opened with a Burns Night Supper at the Cohen Career Center, where students shared their experiences and career-related concerns over pizza.

Later this month, there will be a “Communicating the JDP Experience to Employers” Workshop. Students will learn and discuss strategies for explaining the Joint Degree Programme on resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, and in interviews.

In March, there will be a day of Mock Interviews with a Career Center Executive Partner specifically for JDP students. Students who sign up will have the opportunity to practice discussing the unique skills developed through their international education in a professional setting. Participants will also receive direct feedback on their interviews. Janine Boldt, this year’s Career Center Graduate Assistant for the Joint Degree Programme, will travel to St. Andrews in early March to meet with students there.

As always, students are welcome to schedule one-on-one meetings with career advisors, drop in during daily Quick Advising hours for resume and cover letter reviews, and attend workshops and info sessions with employers.

For more information about the Cohen Career Center, please visit their website, or email Janine Boldt directly.

St Andrews: Certifiably Satisfying
According to the National Student Survey 2016, St Andrews students have voted themselves the most satisfied in the United Kingdom.

William & Mary: 2017 DC Summer Session
William & Mary offers a broad selection of summer courses at our Washington Center in Dupont Circle. For students spending the summer in the DC-Metro area, the DC Summer Session is an excellent opportunity to take the same rigorous courses available on W&M's campus while exploring the many learning opportunities of the city.

St Andrews: Tradition & Events
Burns Day

Last month St Andrews celebrated Burns Day, a holiday celebrating Scottish poet Robert Burns, with a ceilidh and haggis tasting session for international students. Students on the Joint Degree Programme also attended.

Kate Kennedy Procession

In April, the WaMStA Student Partnership will be participating in the Kate Kennedy Procession for the second year. The KKP, which happens annually, is the oldest historic Procession in all of Scotland! Last year, the Programme was invited to portray Benjamin Franklin, John Witherspoon, and James Wilson, who all represent the USA's connection to St. Andrews and Scotland.

Red Gown Pier Walk

The most famous tradition associated with the University of St Andrews is the red gown worn by undergraduate students. This traditional garb is worn only on special occasions such as during the Pier Walk, when students meet in St Salvator's Quad before walking down to and along the Pier, climbing up the ladder at the end and back along the higher, more precarious, path.

May Dip

Later this semester, hundreds of students will gather in the early hours of May 1st for the annual May Dip. The event includes staff, swimmers and superstitious students unwilling to test the myth that they will fail their degree if they step on the initials of martyr Patrick Hamilton outside the Quad on North Street. A popular event in the student calendar, tradition suggests that the only way to remove the Patrick Hamilton curse is to plunge into the chilly waters of St Andrews.

William & Mary: Charter Day 2017
This past weekend, William & Mary turned 324 years old! We celebrated the annual Charter Day Weekend with a wide range of festivities which involved students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as the local community.
St Andrews: Pre-Departure Sessions

St Andrews has already begun their pre-departure sessions for First Year students. These sessions get First Years ready for the transition to William & Mary and include tips on housing, clubs, and classes.
