Ascension Parish Potluck in the Rectory

Sunday, October 26 at 1 p.m.



You are warmly invited to a good ole parish potluck on Sunday, October 26 at 1 p.m. hosted in the Rectory (1119 N La Salle). With a growing number of new parishioners and several years since our last parish dinner, we hope that both new and longtime parishioners can come together to share a meal and become acquainted with one another. The Church of the Ascension young people's cohort invites you to join us in commemorating All Souls' Day with an Office of the Dead offered at the family gravesite of the Rev. Edward Allan Larrabee, tenth Rector of the Church, in Graceland Cemetery, followed by a picnic luncheon and cemetery tour.

We shall gather at the Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, then travel to the cemetery as a group. Transportation and lunch will be provided. All are welcome.

The Mass is the principal act of Christian worship on the Lord’s Day - the source and summit of the Catholic faith. Please join us for a three-week series in which we will explore three distinct components of the Mass: chant, liturgy, and mission. A hearty lunch will be provided beginning at 12:45 p.m. in the Library.

A Journey of Faith: Church of the Ascension

Joins the 74th Annual Marian Pilgrimage in Sheboygan

On October 18, 2025, fifteen parishioners from Church of the Ascension, led by Fr. Carlos de la Torre, joyfully joined the 74th annual pilgrimage to the American Proto-Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham at Grace Episcopal Church in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The tradition of gathering in October each year at Grace for prayer, fellowship and devotion to Mary continues a rich legacy of Marian pilgrimage rooted in the Anglican Marian revival.

The history of the shrine at Grace goes back to 1929 when the parish priest, Fr. A. Parker Curtiss, launched the idea of installing in the United States the first exact copy of Our Lady of Walsingham from the English Shrine. The Lady Chapel at Grace was built in 1930 and consecrated in 1931; the Shrine at Grace is considered the first Anglican parish shrine to Our Lady of Walsingham in the United States. The annual pilgrimage, which includes times of reflection, prayer and a procession of devotion, offers pilgrims an opportunity to deepen their faith in Mary’s intercession and be drawn closer to Christ. 

With this year’s 74th gathering behind us, our group from Church of the Ascension looks forward with great anticipation to joining the celebration of the 75th-year anniversary of the pilgrimage next year.

New Online Coffee Hour Sign-Up Sheet

If you're looking for a way to give back and support Ascension's robust parish life, we hope you'll consider serving as a coffee hour host. With our new online sign-up sheet, it's now easier than ever to sign-up for coffee hour: https://tinyurl.com/y66pztfz. A hard copy continues to be available in Wheeler Hall, and will be updated and reprinted every week to prevent accidental "double bookings."

So, what does hosting coffee hour entail? We ask that you set-up, provide and prepare snacks, and clean up Wheeler Hall. You can provide any food items you wish and there are always pastries available in the freezer for easy thawing. Coffee and cold beverages are provided by the church. Reimbursement funds are available for coffee hour expenses, but please make sure to provide a receipt in order to complete a reimbursement request. 

If you have any questions about hosting coffee hour, please speak to Father de la Torre or Hospitality Committee members Josh or Ellie Simpson, LaVerne Saunders or Carol Noren. They will be glad to help and guide you.

As part of our Sunday offering of the Mass, we bring to God our petitions and thanksgivings. As a community, we do this by bidding the parish’s intentions in the Prayers of the People. If you wish to have someone added to the Prayers of the People, please email Father de la Torre or the Parish Office.

Lord, hear the prayers of thy people; and what we have asked faithfully, grant that we may obtain effectually, to the glory of thy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
