We know that some people are not yet able to participate in person.

St. Bride's is looking for some additional Ushers. Current responsibilities will be assisting attendees during the filming of Mass, and ensuring that the participants are socially distant. Ushers will also be responsible for pushing the button on an I-phone (provided) to begin recording the Mass, and stopping the recording following the Mass.

Lent to benefit
St. Matthews food closet.
Drop your cans/dry goods at Church during office hours
or use a key if you have one. Place them in the
box on the kitchen counter. If you would prefer you may send a check or bring money by. We will use the funds to purchase Food Lion gift cards.
Our parishioners as well as others in need may receive assistance from the food closet.

LENT AT SAINT BRIDE’S CHURCH
Wednesdays in Lent

7:00 PM A joint Zoom meeting with St. Peter’s. Fr. Jesse will be teaching on the Basics of our Faith. This will be an excellent refresher for many and a useful introduction for those who are seekers. See previous Zoom information.
Sundays in Lent
10:45 AM The High Mass in Church.
During Lent the Mass will include The Great Litany in Procession or Chanted Decalogue. People must be masked and social distanced.
You may also participate in Mass via our Facebook page, St. Bride’s
Anglo-Catholic as a livestream (while it is happening) or watch and participate later.
Independent Study in Lent
We have many excellent DVDs that we are happy to lend out. Topics include Saints, Bible Study, Liturgy and Church History. If you missed some of our previous presentations during Adult Formation, now is a great time to catch up. Call the Office to request a specific DVD or presenter. We can make sure you
can get the DVD.

Happenings at St. Bride's

As you know, we have a Living Memorial Fund. Donations to this fund, in memory of loved ones, or in thanksgiving for an occasion or person are only used to purchase permanent items for use in the church. The Vestry has approved several expenditures from this fund. These pictures are of the new set of Rose vestments, which were worn on Lent IV.

ARTHUR OLD
Burial Office, Magnolia Cemetery
Arthur “Art” Doniphan Old, aged 84 of Fredericksburg Virginia passed away at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg Virginia, Tuesday, March 09, 2021. He is survived by his wife Martha Layman Old, his son James W. Old and his wife Elizabeth S. Old, his stepdaughter Kelly L. Layman and her husband John D. Rehrer, his stepson Bryan C. Layman and his wife Elaine M. Layman, and 6 loving grandchildren, Parker, Tyler, Frances, Bennett, Madison, and Kathryn. Art is the son of James Elisha Old, Jr and Mary Parker Old, of Norfolk VA. He was formerly married to Eleanor Markham Old, who passed away in 2003. Upon his engagement and marriage to Martha, he moved to Fredericksburg, VA.
Art was a longtime Norfolk, VA native, growing up in the Berkley area and attending Robert Gatewood Elementary, Ruffner JR HS, and graduating from Maury HS. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a member of the VPI Corps of Cadets, including serving as Eager Squad and Eager Platoon Leader his senior year. Graduating in 1958 with a Geology degree, he was commissioned in the US Army as an Air Defense Artillery Officer. On active duty, he was stationed in Texas and multiple locations in Virginia as a qualified Air Defense Artillery Director with an Expert Missileman Badge. Transferring to the reserves, Art taught general science at Maury HS for 2 years in Norfolk VA before returning to VPI to graduate in 1964 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Honorably discharged from his reserve duty after serving in various units including Medical, Military Police, Field Artillery, Engineers, and Infantry, Art accepted a position with Armstrong World Industries. He worked for Armstrong for 29 years, ultimately retiring as a Senior Systems Analyst in Business Information Services Department in 1993.
Following his retirement from Armstrong, Art served for 16 years as a substitute instructor at Lancaster (PA) County Career and Technology Center teaching computer systems and information technology. He was a 6-year member of the Troop 99 Committee, Boy Scouts of America. An avid pilot, Art obtained his Private Pilot License in 1972, then his Commercial Pilot license with instruments rating and became a Certificated Flight Instructor Airplane and Instruments 1977. He was a 40-year member of the National Association of Flight Instructors and a 30-year member of the Acorn Mutual Flying Club, Lancaster PA.
His interest in genealogy led to becoming a member of the Society of the Cincinnati of the State of Virginia, The Sons of the American Revolution - Continental Congress Chapter, York, PA, and the Colonel Fielding Lewis Chapter - Fredericksburg, VA. He was a member of the Lancaster County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the Revolution, serving as Secretary, Database Administrator, and Regent as well as a member of the Board of Managers of the PA State Society of Sons of the Revolution. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Historic Rockford Plantation Foundation - the home of General Edward Hand, Adjutant General to George Washington. In Fredericksburg VA he was a member of the Col. Fielding Lewis Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Rappahannock Valley Civil War Roundtable, and the University of Mary Washington ElderStudy program.
A lifetime Episcopalian, Art was a member of St. Brides Episcopal Church, Norfolk thru college; All Saints Episcopal Church, Fulton, NY; St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Lancaster, PA; and Trinity Episcopal Church, Fredericksburg, VA.
A viewing will be held at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM where his family will be in attendance to greet any guests wishing to pay respects. Due to COVID restrictions, the burial in Magnolia Cemetery in Norfolk, VA will be private.
