Meet the Teacher:
William Dunn-Sarmiento
William Dunn-Sarmiento is in his 3rd year at St. Cecilia School and Academy. He is the Academy math teacher, which is for middle school classes 6th to 8th grade. Prior to Academy, homeroom teachers handle most subjects and lessons. When students get to Academy, classes become more specialized with teachers dedicated to particular subjects.
For William, one of the great parts of St. Cecilia is the diversity of the community. “The fact that there's a strong Latino community, while at the same time being so welcoming to all, lets everyone celebrate their heritage and learn about others.” He works to share his passion for math with the students. “I love math for how straightforward it is. You can always get the right answer,” he says.
William also serves as a Family and Student Liaison. In this role, he works with students who may be having trouble concentrating or with behavior. With patience and empathy, he’s able to build a relationship with the students. “The development of the relationship from the first meeting where students might be a little defensive to where we’re communicating, not just on basic things, but real world examples is pretty big for me.”
William, as well as the students, faculty and staff of St. Cecilia, are so grateful to all those who support the school. Without the generosity of the extended school community, the achievements of our students would not be possible.
