2nd Sunday of Lent

Ordinary Time - Cycle B

To know the Holy Spirit and Live the Life of Christ

All we are is Dust in the Wind?

“Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return”

Here we are in the first week of Lent! It is very special for me to share this Lenten journey with you. May the Lord of life fill us with grace and the burning fire of His love as we seek Him this Lent.

Imagine, if you will, a jar of dirt. Is that dirt what you and I are going to look like in 100 years? Surely, the physical bodies we now have will be dirt. That is always a pretty sobering thought for me. In our Ash Wednesday liturgy today we say that we are dust and to dust we shall return. In the end, are we just dust in the wind?

Sometimes I don’t feel that I have much lasting or good value- I feel like a pile of fill dirt. Recently, I got into my not so uncommon envy and jealousy game. I saw how another person was more revered than I was. The downward spiral of my thoughts had me feeling pretty low. (Isn’t it amazing how fast we can devalue ourselves?) Do you know what my whole problem was? Jesus was not there.

Lent is a great time to ask the question, “Am I just a pile of dirt waiting to happen or am I an infinitely loved son or daughter of the Father?” It is helpful to consider if we are moving to the “dirt” of God’s absence or the love of His presence. I know that when I do not have Jesus in my life leading me to the Father, I fill like nothing more than 200 pounds of dirt. I know God has so much more in store for me. I also know that the only power I have in and of myself is to become a pile of dirt.

Wow, the only power I have on my own is to become a pile of dirt. That is why we need the power of Jesus. Look at what God did in creating humanity in Genesis 2. He created glorious and beautiful people out of the clay of the earth. Likewise, Jesus will do wonders for us- if we let Him. Each of us is called to live a beautiful way of life, full of love. If we let Jesus in, it is amazing what He can do with a pile of dirt!

Are we just dust in the wind? Nothing could be further from the truth.

You are loved!

-We had a powerful Stations of the Cross last Friday. Notice the children serving as we remembered and honored our Lord’s passion. Powerful! Great job moms and dads leading your children to heaven! They were so excited to serve and they served with so much joy! Stations of the Cross every Friday during Lent at 5:30 PM. Also, we have the wonderful ICF fish fry from 4 to 7 PM each Friday during Lent. Partake!
