Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Parish Mission Statement:

Mir from Medjugorje!

Mir is a Slavic word meaning Peace. That is really at the heart of the message of Medjugorje – peace. I arrived here yesterday and I am filled with excitement at this place which is inundated by heaven! It’s just so Catholic and peaceful and loving and good here because God reigns here and Mother Mary points the way!

I told you I would tell you the beautiful story about Matteo and Giuliana and also what I plan to do here for the month of October. Hang on, that will be next week! In the meantime, I wanted to share a fun and beautiful comic strip I was given by our own wonderful and very creative parishioner, Carol Inacio. Thank you, Carol, for being so prayerful and affirming and loving and creatively expressing that love, including through your most unique and uplifting cards, including this comic!

You are loved!

Armando's Article

Hi everyone,

I’m Armando — I serve at St. Charles Borromeo as the Youth Ministry & Young Adult Coordinator. I get to serve alongside Tess, Char, Aly, and Father John in this wonderful community. Before coming here I served with FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students), a missionary organization that evangelizes on college campuses, and prior to that I worked as a civil engineer.

Over the last few weeks I’ve been reflecting a lot about friendships and community, and about the huge impact faithful friends have had on my life. In the book of Sirach it says:

“Faithful friends are a sturdy shelter; whoever finds one has found a treasure. Faithful friends are beyond price; no amount can balance their worth. Faithful friends are life-saving medicine, and those who fear the Lord will find them.”

I love how clearly Scripture praises faithful friendships.

A quick story: three years ago, in October 2022, I interviewed with FOCUS and they asked: “What has been the most formative experience, book, or podcast for you this past year?” I answered: my friends. They taught me that I was worth loving and they continually point me back to Jesus. Christ-centered community and faithful friendships have shaped me into the person I am today. I still fall short and fail sometimes, but my friends never give up on me. They hold space for grace and mercy when all I can see is muck and ugliness. They model the gentleness and care that Christ wants me to experience, and I’m so grateful for that.

My hope and prayer for whoever’s reading this is that Jesus blesses you with faithful friends, and that He draws you into a deeper friendship with Him. If you’re reading this and you’re part of St. Charles — this is a place overflowing with faithful people. If you’re new and looking for friends, say hi to someone — we’d love to be your friend.

God bless,

Armando

Grief Support Ministry

We are launching a new Grief Support Group at Saint Charles Borromeo beginning Tuesday, October 7.  Sessions will be held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM in the Borromeo Room.

This group offers a compassionate space for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. Whether your loss is recent or from years past, you are welcome. Together we will listen, share, and support one another through prayer, Scripture and community.

If you or someone you know in the parish is seeking comfort and support during a time of grief, we invite you to join us.
