Jesus is Risen! Love wins! JOY wins! Life wins!
I look to disrupt with the light and power of Our Risen Lord. How have you disrupted someone recently with His light and power? Think about it- is there any other reason for our existence? Let being a disrupted disruptor your game plan, your way of life.
You size me up. I size you up. I try to size up every person I meet. My question always is, “Do they have Jesus? Have they surrendered their life to the Lord? Do they have Joy? Do they live in peace? And if they don’t, you know what I want to do? DISRUPT!
Last Monday I was called to jury duty at 7:45 AM at the Superior Court downtown. I figured there were about 350 potential jurors in our main gathering room. I prayed, “Lord, you know I don’t want to be here on my only day off (Mondays) and I would rather be bike-riding right now but how do you want me to DISRUPT?
Started talking to this lady dressed in a business suite. She was focused but congenial. She asked where I was a pastor, and I asked her what her work was. When she told me where she was a prosecuting attorney, I shared with her that I had gone to law school for a year at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. It is a respected law school in the great Northwest but only known in the region. I asked her where she went and she replied, “Harvard.” Ouch- I felt really tiny at that point- LOL!
But I was trying to size up her soul in our conversation. I don’t know if she went to church or not, but she seemed like she was drawn to who I was and what I was doing with my life. With eye contact and focused attention, I asked her how she handled all the stress in her life, and I think she felt loved and cared for in that question and our conversation. After about 20 minutes we were released for a break, and I did not see her again- until they released us all at 11:20 AM (I was so stoked to be “off the hook” of a jury trial so fast). I was still reflecting on what her life might be like when we “bumped into” each other leaving the gathering room. I think she was thinking about God, wanting peace in her life, and maybe thinking of the bigger picture and her need to go to church. I hope and pray Jesus somehow disrupted her. And I think Jesus did disrupt her with his infinite love as his warmth and kindness was in the middle of our good-bye.
Disrupt!
