Saint Nicon was from Neapolis (Naples) in Italy. His father was an idolater and his mother a Christian. At first he was a soldier, but later he went to the East, where he was baptized and in time became a bishop. After some years, he returned to the West and came to Sicily, where he and many of his disciples were put to death by beheading because they would not worship the idols. to continue click here

Youth Sermon 3/16/25

We are blessed once again to have our Metropolis Youth & Young Adult Director Panos with us this morning.

Today's youth sermon (which begins at the 30 second mark) focuses on the Saint we remember on this 2nd Sunday of Great Lent, St. Gregory of Palamas and a practice that is done at MBC.

What is this practice?

Main Sermon 3/16/25

St. Gregory of Palamas focused on stillness and finding time to be alone with God.

What is our stillness like? Do we spend quality time with our spouse? With our children?

One highlight of this sermon is the following quote:

"If the devil can't make you sin, he can make you busy."

Main Sermon 3/9/25

Today we celebrate the Triumph of Orthodoxy remembering the restoration of Holy Images - Iconography.

In the sermon Fr Demetri asks an individual to see how many icons he sees in a particular pew? Want to know the answer and how we are to see each person in this life?

+PROSPHORO NEED+

Bread has been the emblem of God’s providence for us, throughout humanity’s history. Both physical (bread as food) and spiritual - the επιούσιον (epiousion) or “supersubstantial” bread of the Lord’s prayer, the bread of Holy Communion.

In the Orthodox Christian church, the pinnacle of our worship is union with Christ, both spiritually but also physically, by consuming the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since the Last Supper, before every Divine Liturgy, one or more of the faithful prepare and bring bread to church to be used as the Body of Christ in the Eucharist. The Orthodox church is liturgical. For those of us who bake prosphoro, the liturgy begins as we prepare to bake!

Prosphoro is an offering to God, made from His material gifts to us, and prepared lovingly and prayerfully.

A special website is available to share with the faithful this ‘proper’ method of preparation of the holy gift according to the Greek Orthodox tradition. Please click here to learn how to bake this beautiful offering.
