Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the

1st Ecumenical Council

The seventh Sunday after the Feast of Holy Pascha is observed by the Orthodox Church as the Sunday of the Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council. This day commemorates the 318 God-bearing Fathers who gathered in Nicaea in 325 at the request of the Emperor, Saint Constantine the Great, to address the heresy of Arianism together with other issues that concerned the unity of the Church. to continue click here

St. Justin the Martyr

This Saint, who was from Neapolis of Palestine, was a follower of Plato the philosopher. Born in 103, he came to the Faith of Christ when he was already a mature man, seeking to find God through philosophy and human reasoning. A venerable elder appeared to him and spoke to him about the Prophets who had taught of God not through their own wisdom, but by revelation; and he led him to knowledge of Christ, Who is the fulfillment of what the Prophets taught. Hi my name is Peter Costarakis, I am currently a senior at Dracut High School in Massachusetts. Some of my extracurriculars include being my High School's Class President for the past four years, playing the bass in my High School orchestra, and playing on the Golf team. I am currently a member of the Nation Honors Society and the Tri-M Music Honors Society. This summer I will be attending the Metropolis of Boston Camp as a counselor and in the fall I will be attending the University of Massachusetts Lowell Honors College, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Since my time here at Saint George, I have been an active member in the High School discussion group, GOYA, and currently serving as an Altar Boy.

Hello, my name is Lukas Demos. I’m proud to be graduating from Bedford High School this year and excited to begin the next chapter at Rutgers University this fall, where I’ll be majoring in Business Management with a minor in Brand Development. Basketball has been a central part of my life for the past 12 years at St. George, not only as a player but also as a coach for the last four. As an assistant coach, I’ve had the opportunity to help lead teams to several city, state, and regional championships—an experience that has been both rewarding and unforgettable. St. George has played a significant role in shaping who I am. From being baptized in the church to attending Greek and Sunday school, and starting my basketball journey at Saturday clinics, this community has always been home. I’m incredibly grateful for everything St. George has offered me and I’m honored to be part of such a supportive and meaningful community.

Alexia Prodanis: I am graduating from Manchester Central High school and will be attending Ohio University in the fall majoring in chemical engineering. Throughout high school I participated in many different groups including Irish Step Dancing, Honors societies, robotics and will continue to do so in college!

Angelina Sapienza is completing the Upper Bridge program at North Star Education Services in Bedford, NH. As part of the Manchester Greek Orthodox community, Angelina has participated in Little Lambs, Sunday School, Greek School, Vacation Church Camp, GOYA and volunteering at Glendi. She plans to take classes locally and continue her journey with the Greek Orthodox faith. Angelina is the daughter of Phil and Pam Sapienza.

My name is Ava Ziagos and I am graduating from Greater Lowell Technical High School where I have been studying marketing for the last four years. During high school I participated in Student Leadership, Student Council, National Honor Society, and National Technical Honor Society. As well as being an active GOYA member, a member of the highschool discussion group and a steward of the church. In my free time I go out with my friends, go shopping, go to the beach and read books or binge watch tv shows. In the fall I am attending Coastal Carolina University located in Conway, South Carolina to continue and further my education in the field of Marketing.

Katarina Zioze is a class of '25 graduating senior. She is graduating from The Derryfield School and will be attending Elon University in North Carolina this fall. She was admitted directly into the nursing program at Elon and plans to study to become a NICU nurse. She has greatly enjoyed volunteering at Glendi, working at the loukoumades station. This was not only serving her community, but honoring her late aunt Soultana, who could always be found each year at the same station. Katarina is also extremely active in and dedicated to her dance studio, dancing a minimum of five days a week and competing on the studio competition team.

SUMMER YOUTH INFO

+PROSPHORO+

Bread has been the emblem of God’s providence for us, throughout humanity’s history. Both physical (bread as food) and spiritual - the επιούσιον (epiousion) or “supersubstantial” bread of the Lord’s prayer, the bread of Holy Communion.

In the Orthodox Christian church, the pinnacle of our worship is union with Christ, both spiritually but also physically, by consuming the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since the Last Supper, before every Divine Liturgy, one or more of the faithful prepare and bring bread to church to be used as the Body of Christ in the Eucharist. The Orthodox church is liturgical. For those of us who bake prosphoro, the liturgy begins as we prepare to bake!

Prosphoro is an offering to God, made from His material gifts to us, and prepared lovingly and prayerfully.

A special website is available to share with the faithful this ‘proper’ method of preparation of the holy gift according to the Greek Orthodox tradition. Please click here to learn how to bake this beautiful offering.
