St. Panteleimon, who had Nicomedia as his homeland, was the son of Eustorgius and Eubula. His father was an idolater, but his mother was a Christian from her ancestors. It was through her that he was instructed in piety, and still later, he was catechized in the Faith of Christ by Saint Hermolaus (see July 26) and baptized by him. Being proficient in the physician's vocation, he practiced it in a philanthropic manner, healing every illness more by the grace of Christ than by medicines. Thus, although his parents had named him Pantoleon ("in all things a lion"), because of the compassion he showed for the souls and bodies of all, he was worthily renamed Panteleimon, meaning "all-merciful." On one occasion, when he restored the sight of a certain blind man by calling on the Divine Name, he enlightened also the eyes of this man's soul to the knowledge of the truth. This also became the cause for the martyrdom of him who had been blind, since when he was asked by whom and in what manner his eyes had been opened, in imitation of that blind man of the Gospel he confessed with boldness both who the physician was and the manner of his healing. For this he was put to death immediately. Panteleimon was arrested also, and having endured many wounds, he was finally beheaded in the year 305, during the reign of Maximian. Saint Panteleimon is one of the Holy Unmercenaries, and is held in special honor among them, even as Saint George is among the Martyrs.

Take your computer mouse over the candles on the table.
Click on a candle to pick it up and bring it the the virtual flame.
Light your candle and hover over the candlestand until the base is highlighted, click on your mouse and the candle will be placed in the virtual sand!

We thank the Library/Museum Committee for overseeing the setup of the online program and of course the Internet Ministries Department of the Archdiocese who is able to make this happen!

COMMUNITY CENTER CLOSED SUMMER 2025 - The community center is now closed until the maintenance work is complete, approximately the middle of August. Phyllo will remain available for purchase during this work.

ST. GEORGE HIGH SCHOOL DISCUSSION GROUP CO-LEADER WANTED - We are going on our third year as a group at St. George and we are looking for some help. If you are interested in co-leading this group of our incredible high school age young men and women, please let Beth in the office know of your interest. If you have any questions regarding what the expectations would be, feel free to reach out to Bill Hughen at bhughen2427@gmail.com. We meet at the same time as Sunday School and discuss topics relevant to what is happening in the world and how it impacts our youth. The discussions are very organic and extremely enjoyable. Having two people, or more, as facilitators helps the group meet every Sunday during the year.

PROSPHORA - The church supply of prosphora over the past few months has diminished. This means it is a wonderful opportunity for you to make this offering to be used for The Divine Liturgy. We use 4 loaves for each Sunday Divine Liturgy. We appreciate your help with this special need. See the more info below in this bulletin.

RAFFLE ITEMS NEEDED – Please donate an item for the raffles! We could really use toys or activities for babies through pre-teens and gift cards for $25 or more (gas, restaurants, grocery stores, florist, etc.). Look in clearance and sales sections in stores for other ideas. Thank you to those who have already donated items.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - The Families in Transition (FIT) Soup Kitchen serve hundreds of families and individuals in the community who need help. The Assumption Parish has requested to help on the 4th Sunday of every month. Starting on Sunday, January 28th from 430-630pm they once again began support the Soup Kitchen with 4 volunteers. Anyone who is 16 or order can volunteer to help! If you are passionate about making a difference in your community, there is no better time than right now to join our volunteer team! BLESSING BAGS - There are a few more blessings bags, please take one to give to someone who may be in need. These blessing bags were made from the VCC Campers and Staff!

Bread has been the emblem of God’s providence for us, throughout humanity’s history. Both physical (bread as food) and spiritual - the επιούσιον (epiousion) or “supersubstantial” bread of the Lord’s prayer, the bread of Holy Communion.

In the Orthodox Christian church, the pinnacle of our worship is union with Christ, both spiritually but also physically, by consuming the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since the Last Supper, before every Divine Liturgy, one or more of the faithful prepare and bring bread to church to be used as the Body of Christ in the Eucharist. The Orthodox church is liturgical. For those of us who bake prosphoro, the liturgy begins as we prepare to bake!

Prosphoro is an offering to God, made from His material gifts to us, and prepared lovingly and prayerfully.
