A special fish
Just preceding this Sunday's reading from the Old Testament, the LORD commanded the fish to vomit Jonah upon dry land as depicted one of the door handles of the Cathedral's ceremonial doors. Learn what Jonah did once he dried off by attending Mass or reading about it here.
A smiling fish
The fish on the right is smiling because the fisherman on the right has abandoned his nets to follow Jesus. Find these doorstops at the base of the Cathedral's bronze doors. Hear the full story at Mass or read it here.
Sunday of the Word of God
"We often identify the Bible as the Word of God. This is not wrong, but God speaks to our hearts in many different ways. For instance, he speaks to us in prayer and through our conscience, and often through other people. Hence, the Word of God covers much more than a printed book. Nevertheless, the Bible is the privileged collection of communications between God and his people. These stories and poems have nourished the lives of the people of Israel and the Christian Church right through the centuries, and they continue to nourish us today. They tell the story of God’s love and our salvation from ancient times onwards. The scriptural texts offer us both challenge and encouragement for our lives, and are especially valuable to us through the hope they offer us at dark moments."

Special Note for Year 2
In normal years, we would have had a parent-child retreat in November that focused on Baptism. Because of the pandemic, and because of the late start to the CFF year, we did not. However, I strongly encourage you to have a mini-retreat in your home. The materials below can be adapted for people of all abilities and circumstances. In addition, there is a lovely activity provided that gives you a way to support the two older children who will be baptized at the Easter Vigil this year. Do take a look!

Prepare for Tuesday's class by doing the following two things.
  • Read Formation 4, pages 47-50, in your Candidate's handbook.
  • Complete the journal entry on page 49 of your Candidate's handbook. You can do this in one of two ways. The first, and preferred, way, is to contact your sponsor(s), share the journal prompt, have a conversation about the topic, and then record three things that your sponsor(s) shared that helped you or illuminate the topic. The second way is write down your own thoughts about the topic.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Gracious Lord,
we pray for all the members of your holy Church,
that all may abide in you and you in them,
that they may be one in your love and bear much fruit.
We also pray for the world,
that all may come to believe in your love for them by the fruit of our witness.
We know that our divisions are a source of scandal to your world,
and we know that in love we are called to unite as one in the vine and branches.
The vine is our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son.
We are meant to be his branches.
Help us we pray, to love, to forgive,
to seek justice and to be your prophetic voice in the world.
May your grace effect growth of good fruit among us,
that our world may realize peace.
We ask all this in the name of Jesus, your Son
and in the power of the Holy Spirit,
One God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
