THIS WEEK AT ST JOHN'S

Dear Friends,

Here’s a bit of show and tell to invite you into this week’s upcoming events!

We have a beautiful new video of St John’s. Check out the gorgeous views from a drone that flew high up above Elgin Street, into the rafters, and close up to the highest windows. The video features scenes from a worship service so you may recognize a few of the faces. In case you’re wondering, it’s from our first experiment of holding our 10:15 service at 4:15 p.m. That was on Ascension Sunday on May 29. Please note that we are going to repeat the experiment of moving the 10:15 service to 4:15 p.m. on Sunday October 30.

“Where do we fit?” This graphic of the world’s major religions will be on display during refreshments this coming Sunday in the Chapel. It will also be the focus for our opening session of “St John’s Demystified.” I’m looking forward to the first of four sessions, “Where does Chrstianity fit among the religions of the world, and where does Anglicanism fit among Christian traditions, and where does St John’s fit in the Anglican tradition?” Since our community has diverse backgrounds, I’m especially looking forward to the conversation about “Where do I fit and where do you fit?”

This first session of St John’s Demystified takes place on Saturday, October 29, 10:00 a.m. Aim for 9:45 a.m. – we’ll have coffee, fresh banana bread and fruit to start us off. I’m grateful to the Lifelong Learning Team for the preparations – thanks to Vicki, Sally, Margaret and Ian. Please help us with an idea of numbers; Let us know if you’re planning to attend.

Welcome this coming Sunday 8:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Hope to see you!

PS Please note that on Sunday October 30, our worship services are

    8:00 a.m.

    4:15 p.m. (not 10:15 a.m.)

ST JOHN'S DEMYSTIFIED

Did you ever wonder why people come to St. John's? What they believe? Why they worship the way they do? Why they always seem so busy with outreach programs, community engagement, social justice activities, and a million other things? You are not alone!

The Lifelong Learning Committee is planning a series of conversations to help all parishioners, new and old, to deepen their understanding and appreciation of who we are and what we do at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church. Over 4 sessions there will be time to engage in thoughtful dialogue on topics like these:

  1. Where does Christianity fit among religions of the world, and where does Anglicanism fit among Christian traditions, and where does St John’s fit in the Anglican tradition?
  2. Why do we worship the way we do?
  3. How do we live out our faith in practice?
  4. How do we engage with the world?

The above topics will be explored through four 2-hour Saturday morning sessions to be held (in person) on Oct. 29th, and Nov. 5th, 12th and 19th (10 AM-12PM). This is intended for everyone – you might be new to these questions or maybe you have been thinking about them for a long time. Join us for a chance to learn from each other and to share your views and insights.

CANDIDATE SURVEY RESULTS

We're updating our Candidates page daily

so that you can see how they're responding to

our housing survey.

We have now received 50 surveys from candidates! There are still many left to collect but we are hopeful that with enough support in each ward, we can generate some meaningful momentum over the next term of council.

WRITE YOUR CANDIDATES directly, using our forms, and tell them that housing affordability is a top priority for you this election.

These forms are also downloadable and shareable, so spread them 'round!

We're stronger together.

Flower arranging

Do you enjoy flowers and floral arranging? St John’s has a team that ensures the flowers look beautiful on Sundays, and some new members would be welcome.
