Dear Friends,
Welcome to St John’s for worship this coming Sunday, 8:00 and 10:15 a.m.
Please do notice that there are new people here among us, both in the choir and the
congregation. I would like to give you a few pointers to make our welcome more tangible and real.
- If you have a nametag, please wear it! And if you don’t have one yet, please let us know and Sally Andrews will make you one. Please reach out to Sally by contacting the office: office@stjohnsottawa.ca
- Plan to stay for refreshments afterwards and try to talk to people you don’t know! We will give the details of the location for refreshments in the verbal announcements at the conclusion of the service.
Please note a couple updates.
First, we have started re-keying the church building beginning with the external door key. The last re-keying was in the early 2000s, so we were overdue, but this was actually prompted by an overnight break-in this week. Please note that if you have a key and need a key for the ways you are involved at St John’s, it no longer works! We have made a list and we will ask you to sign for your new key.
Finally, this is my last Sunday before I travel to Israel on a study trip. I am so grateful to Rev Canon Allen Box who will be leading the services for the month of February. Allen begins with the Celebration of Life for Dennis Stimson on February 4 at 1 p.m. I have to add that I am also grateful to Allen for sermons and presiding at the Eucharist as Honorary Assistant Priest. I especially appreciate that Allen knows so much of the St John’s story from his years as rector of this church, 1982 to 1991. I know you’re in good hands.

Over the next month, this newsletter will continue with regular updates. You may even see
glimpses of my time in Israel and Jordan – but mostly I’m saving them for a great slideshow in March.
Hope to see you Sunday!

COVID Safety Update from the Diocese of Ottawa:
“Winter is on the horizon, people are indoors more, and COVID infections are on the rise. Throughout the pandemic, our response to the reality of the virus has been science-based and in line with public health, and this latest challenge must be met the same way. Effective this Sunday, October 30th, all liturgical leaders — including clergy, choirs, servers, chalice bearers, readers, intercessors, and sidespeople/greeters — must wear a mask before, during and after services except when speaking into a microphone, eating or drinking.”

PWRDF Ash Wednesday Soup-Supper Event
Mark your calendars! We are going “live” with our PWRDF Ash Wed.
| |
|
Soup-Supper this year. Join us on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall to sample delicious soups made by our parishioners, followed by a program on PWRDF.
We welcome contributions of soup, bread/rolls and butter. There will be a sign-up sheet for attendance and contributions located both on a table at the back of the church and on the bulletin board in the hallway across from the washrooms in the next week. All are welcome. This is a great opportunity to get to know other parishioners, enjoy a tasty soup and learn more about the very important work The Primate’s World Relief & Development Fund is doing around the world. Contributions to this work will be welcome.
The Ash Wednesday service in the church begins at 7:30.
Contact Jane Maxwell at jane.maxwell@sympatico.ca with any questions.
