PRAYING WITH AWARENESS FOLLOWING REVELATIONS ABOUT RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS

Although the findings of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission included awareness of many deaths and burial sites, the current news is still shocking and re-traumatizing. This gathering is an opportunity to catch up if you have not been fully aware.

Please prepare for this discussion by familiarizing yourself with the following catch-up materials:

INVITING YOUR INPUT ON
"THE FUTURE SHAPE OF PARISH MINISTRY"
Wednesday, June 23 at 7:30pm

The Diocese has asked St John's to engage in the "Shape of Parish Ministry Consultation" exercise from now until the Diocesan Synod in October, 2022. Corporation has established a working group to represent St John's in this exercise. In Stage 1 of this exercise, we have been asked to prepare a Parish Profile that tells other parishes in the Diocese who we are. To this end, our working group has decided to convene a Parish Town Hall on Wednesday 23 June at 7:30 PM to discuss five questions posed by the Diocese, the responses to which will form part of our Parish Profile. Click here to refer to the SPMC webpage for background.

Here are the five questions:

  1. What is the single most important thing you would like our diocese to know about your parish/congregation?
  2. What are your ministry priorities, and how are these priorities lived out in your decisions, activities and use of your resources?
  3. In what way does your parish/congregation serve the wider community; how are you engaged with the local community beyond your walls - outreach, events, partnerships?
  4. What are the challenges to accomplishing the work you’ve described, in terms of finances, building status and human resources?
  5. Are there ministry opportunities you are aware of and what would you need to engage in them?

JERUSALEMA DANCE CHALLENGE
June 20 & 27 at 2pm!

We are ready to prepare our video as a gift to the new Archbishop of Jerusalem, Hosam Naoum, in celebration of his consecration on May 13, 2021. On Sunday's June 20 & 27 we will be meeting in the parking lot across from the church to rehearse and record our dance moves!

THE BYTOWN SCHOOL OF SINGING
Student Voice Recital
Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 4pm

You are invited to attend the end-of-year voice recital hosted by The Bytown School of Singing, which was founded and has made it's home at St John's since 2007.

Your fellow parishioners will be performing at this recital, entitled "Songs from the Heart". You will recognize our soprano choral scholar Carolyn Streich and our choir member, Karen Marks amongst the performers. "Songs from the Heart" celebrates music through the centuries from the early baroque to modern art song, musical theatre, jazz, and pop! (Bohemian Rhapsody to Carmen's Habañera will delight your ears and warm your heart)...Free Admission!
ONLINE WORSHIP CONTINUES
As the province of Ontario has been given the Stay-At-Home-Order, the Bishop's office continues to keep us apprised of safety restrictions. All services will take place online. However, we hope to see you during our fellowship after Sunday services on Zoom. See the link above or visit our YouTube Channel to watch our services online.

TULIPATHON RESULTS

Multifaith Housing Initiative's annual fundraising Tulipathon provides subsidies to low income tenants. On Sunday, May 30, several members of St John's participated in the 3 km solo walk or household hike. Thanks to Gay Richardson, members of the St John's team, their families and friends, the St John's team raised almost $6,635, the top fund raising team. The total raised so far by MHI is almost $70,575, with fund raising continuing to the end of June.  THANKS TO ALL WHO DONATED!
INTERFAITH PRESENTATION
Looking To Texts For Courage In Times Of Struggle

In case you missed the Interfaith Presentation by The Reverend Gary van der Meer and Rabbi Daniel Mikelberg on May 26, you can watch it here on YouTube. It was a fascinating and thought-provoking conversation.
PARISH ADMINISTRATION AT ST JOHN'S

In the interim, administrative duties will be as follows:

Our music director Gordon and Cara Gilbertson will manage parish communications (Sunday bulletins, This Week at St John's e-newsletter and the website).

Secondly, a roster of volunteers comprising Vicki Robinson, Emmy Verdun and Bea Robertson will cover most of the day-to-day administration tasks including handling correspondence such as email, regular mail, phone messages, etc., procuring church supplies, coordinating activities of various church groups, and so on.

Finally, Ted Reeve, a member of our newly established Property & Building Committee will look after rentals. Many thanks go to all those who have agreed to help out.

We look forward to completing the search process and welcoming a new parish administrator at St John's soon.
