POTLUCK BRUNCH

& VISIONING CONVERSATION

Sunday, January 26th

8.45 to 10 am, Hall

It was wonderful to have so many folks at the lunch, but due to the snowfall and other reasons, others were unable to attend. So here's another chance!

Members of St John's are invited to gather as a community, share over brunch, and be creative! Our vision is to be a vibrant ministry hub in the Centretown community. How do we put “ministry hub” into practice on the ground? Are we able to grow our presence and partnerships? And how may we become financially sustainable? Bring food to share and we will gather in table groups for our conversation. Some guiding questions will be provided. If you are a new or long-time member, come and share your ideas. Let’s spark one another!

BISHOP DENNIS APPRECIATION

Sunday, January 26th

Coffee Hour after 10.15 am

Over the past year, we have been blessed with the presence and ministry of Bishop Dennis. As Bishop in Residence, he has encouraged, supported, taught, cared and prayed for us. This arrangement has now come to its end, so please express your appreciation to him at coffee time following the 10.15 am service.

ARMCHAIR TRAVEL

Wednesday, January 29th

7 pm, Chapel

Join Alex Bissett on a trip from Lisbon, travelling north to Porto and on to Santiago de Compostela with the pilgrims; then across the north to Leon and Bilbao. We will visit Pamplona and then travel through and stay in the Pyrenees Mountains before heading south to lively Barcelona.

Army Officers' Mess

The Rectors of St John’s and St Luke’s invite you to come and enjoy a drink (alcoholic or non), snack on some chips or pretzels, and meet new friends in the beautiful Army Officers' Mess. There is parking, as well as an accessible entrance from the lot, and the Mess has a dress code, so please wear something other than jeans, sweatpants or shorts. There will be a donation jar if you wish to help cover the rental cost. Looking forward to seeing you there!

ANNUAL VESTRY MEETING

Sunday, February 23rd

Please join us for our annual parish decision making and budget setting meeting.

Those eligible to be elected and to vote at Vestry must be able to sign the following declaration: "I solemnly declare that: I am a member of this congregation of the Anglican Church of Canada; I am of the full age of sixteen years; I am a regular worshipper with this congregation; I do not intend to vote as a member of any other Vestry in the election of Churchwardens or of Members of Synod during the ensuing year; and I am a supporter of this congregation by regular contributions to its maintenance."

Please bring snacks to share before we get down to Vestry business.

PLEASE NOTE

SUNDAY PARKING

If you drive to St John's on Sunday, you may wonder where to park, so here you go!

Street parking is always free on Sundays, and until the fall of 2020, parking at City Hall is also free on Sundays.

The Indigo lot on Somerset Street next to St John's belongs to us and on Sunday mornings there is free parking until 1 pm for parishioners (except in the 24 hour reserved spots). If you receive a ticket on Sunday morning, please be sure to let our Administrator know so that it may be cancelled.

There are several spots on either side of the door at 154 Somerset Street, please park in any of those except the one marked for Communauto. There are also a few spots on Elgin Street in front of the Parish Hall.

Please do not park at St Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, as their Indigo lot is for their parishioners on Sunday.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IN DYING QUESTIONNAIRE

Canadian Anglicans may not all share the same views on medically assisted dying, but we do share concerns to protect the most vulnerable in our midst. The questions before the federal government carry implications for the use of appropriate safeguards against coercion and other practices that have the potential to do damage to vulnerable persons. Please consider filling in the Department of Justice questionnaire to have your voice heard.

TAX RECEIPTS ARE READY!

Tax receipts for 2019 donations to St John's have been prepared and are available for pick-up on Sunday, January 19th and 26th, at the Elgin Street entrance to the church. Those receipts not picked-up will be mailed. Please review this to ensure that you have been credited with the full amount of your donation to St John's for 2019. PWRDF APPEAL FOR

AUSTRALIAN BUSHFIRES

PWRDF has made a $5,000 solidarity grant to the Australian Anglican Board of Mission’s Bushfire Appeal, to provide relief and support to those in need across the dioceses impacted in the north and eastern parts of Victoria State.
