BISHOP SHANE APPOINTS
MARGARET PACHANOS LEMAIRE

Bishop Shane is deeply thankful to announce the appointment of Margaret Pachanos Lemaire as Anglican Indigenous Advisor to the Bishop of Ottawa, effective June 21, 2021.

Margaret is from the Cree First Nation of Chisasibi on the eastern coast of James Bay. Her formative years were spent on the traditional lands of her People, hunting, fishing, and trapping. She is a residential school survivor, having been placed in the St Philip's Indian Residential School in Chisasibi (formerly Fort George) as her formal education began.

During the many years she lived and raised her family in New Brunswick, she developed close working relations with the Mik'mawk and Maliseet First Nations peoples. Over her working career, she gained experience and involvement in dealing with Indigenous rights, and saw the rise of the James Bay Hydroelectric Project in 1970s, the reinstatement of Bill C-31, Indigenous women's status rights, and many other causes.

Margaret Lemaire is a member of Christ Church, Bells Corners where she has served in numerous leadership roles. She is a founding member and co-chair of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa's All My Relations Circle, whose mandate is to provide leadership to individuals and parishes concerning Indigenous Peoples, and to encourage engagement with the 94 Calls to Action from the Final Report of Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Along with Albert Dumont, who serves as Algonquin Advisor to the Bishop, Margaret will provide counsel and advice to Bishop Shane concerning Indigenous Peoples in the context of our diocese and beyond.

Do you want to do something that will make a difference right away in Palestine?
Support the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. As they try to meet the flow of injured and traumatized victims, they are overwhelmed and need funding for fuel for the hospital generators, emergency medicine, and medical supplies.

If you donate through the development and relief agency of the The Anglican Church of Canada, PWRDF, the funds go directly to the hospital.
