THANKS TO THOSE WHO BRAVED THE STORM!

Thanks to everyone who came to the event on Wednesday evening despite the very intense weather!!! The hope for those who could not attend is... we are pretty sure that Beth can be persuaded to offer her presentation again later in the year when the weather is milder. ☺
CAN YOU HELP WITH ART CREDO ?

St John's is preparing to host the 42nd !!! Art Credo Art Show in our Sanctuary. The Event will run in late April and early May. The Art Credo Event Team can always use some helpful volunteers. If you can help please contact the Church Office and we will put you in touch with Art Credo Team Leader Detlef Dransch.
Typical tasks needing volunteers include:
  • coordinating the advertising for the exhibit
  • receiving the artwork
  • 'curating' the artwork (sorting them...deciding which pieces go together)
  • hanging the artwork
  • organizing the Vernissage (arranging munchies & wine)
  • sitting shifts during the show
  • helping with the take-down of the artworks

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IN DYING
OR MEDICALLY ASSISTED DEATH

Wednesday, January 30th
7-8 pm, available on-line from St Paul University

Dr Hazel Markwell will speak on this: Medical Assistance in Dying or Medically Assisted Death: Why Words Matter. The Supreme Court of Canada recently ruled that Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) is exempt from criminal prosecution under certain conditions. This talk will be a discussion of how this decision and the ensuing legislation challenges our notions of a good life and the meaning of suffering and death. It will also discuss how this position affects end-of-life care in general, and most importantly how it impacts human dignity. The talk will highlight the need for a greater understanding of and distinction between the appropriate withholding/withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment and euthanasia/physician-assisted death. For Information on how to view this lecture on-line please email the Church Office office@stjohnsottawa.ca
