Joyful News!

A Letter from our Sr. Warden and Upcoming Rector Meredith Rogers

With deep gratitude and joy, the Vestry and Search Committee are thrilled to announce

that Meredith Rogers (she/her) has been called to serve as the next Rector of St.

Barnabas Episcopal Church. Her spouse, Asher Vincent (they/them), will join her in this

journey of faith, love, and community. - Jolene Whitney

Dear good people of St. Barnabas,

What a gift to greet you in this new chapter together as your Deacon-in-Charge! From the beginning of the call/search process, I have experienced St. Barnabas as a community that embodies God’s love through expansiveness, connection, and passion for justice. These qualities came through even at a distance. You have a courageous history of creating belonging, you care deeply for one another, you feel delight being amongst each other, and you worship joyfully. - Meredith Rogers

June Giving-2-Others

The Center On Colfax

In recognition of Pride Month in June, the Giving-2-Others recipient is the Center on Colfax. Since 1976 the Center on Colfax has become the largest LGBTQ community center in the Rocky Mountain region, giving voice to Colorado's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community and playing a pivotal role in statewide initiatives to reduce harassment and discrimination. Today they are focused on ensuring every member of the LGBTQ community has access to the programs and resources they need to live happy, healthy, and productive lives. For more information on The Center On Colfax click here.

To donate online, click here or earmark a check to St. Barnabas for “Giving-2-Others” and place it in the offering plate, the office, or mail it in.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

June Committee Spotlight

The Community Life Committee

This month we highlight with gratitude our Community Life Committee. These folks plan and carry out our all-church events. These events provide for new friendships to begin and for our community to be strengthened so that we can move forward in our mission. Some events include St. Barnabas Day in June, the All Church Picnic in August, the Celebration of the Arts in the winter, and the Easter Morning Brunch; all gatherings where God's Spirit binds us together in love. Jesus engaged in sharing meals with people from all walks of life--enjoying laughter, joy, and deepening friendships as an integral part of his ministry, and so it is with us. Carol Wier, Pat Long, Neil Stock, Sis Flor, Carolyn Wolfrum (vestry liaison), and Patti Walter (staff support) work together to provide opportunities for our community to grow. Join us! We'd love to have you.

No Kings Denver Power to the People Activist Fair June 14th 12-4 pm

NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies. We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies. For more information click here.

Summer "Under the Oak" Book Discussions

Sundays, July 13 and August 10

These discussions, sponsored by the Forum Planners, take place at 8:15 - 9:15 on two Sundays in the summer. Pick up a copy of the following two books so that you can join in these lively outdoor discussions!

July 13: We will discuss James, Percival Everett's Pulitzer Prize winning novel written from the perspective of "Jim" in Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn. This book is both harrowing and darkly humorous, told from the enslaved Jim's point of view. Brimming with the electrifying humor and lacerating observations that have made Everett a literary icon, this brilliant and tender novel radically illuminates Jim’s agency, intelligence, and compassion as never before.

August 10: We will discuss The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer.

All Church Picnic

We will gather at Ruby Hill Park Pavilion for some good food and great fun! Festivities and games begin at 10:00, fried chicken lunch at 11:30. You won't want to miss this all church event. More details to follow.
