StMCS Distance Update 3/18/20
Staff are learning so many awesome things as we prepare to teach in a new way! Today, everyone played with Google Meet and learned how to make QuickTime videos. Watch for more staff greetings tomorrow!
Dear Families,

Thank you for driving through last night and this morning to do a “curbside pickup” of your child’s instructional materials. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces! We miss you and your children!

If you were not able to participate in the curbside pickup, please call the school office at 763-497-3887 to schedule a pickup time.

The initial goal for material pick-up was simply to get books and curriculum into your possession. Mission accomplished! There have not been any assignments made to accompany those materials yet - plans are in the works.

Teachers and staff were in yesterday and today meeting to wrap our minds around this situation and establish protocols, finalize second trimester grades, and gather student belongings for pick-up. Today, teachers finished designing some multi-age, family-friendly learning options for your children for the coming week along with a sample daily schedule for your use.

We recognize that every family has had their world turned upside down and people are re-grouping and coping in various ways as best they can. This includes each of our staff members' families as well. We want to stand strong in our partnership with you and help each other help our children.

The attached tools (sample schedule and choice board) are for you to use as they work best for your family. We know that schedules and predictability bring calm and comfort for people of all ages, especially children. If you already have an established routine that works for incorporating faith and learning, please use it. If you like our ideas, but they aren’t quite a fit, adapt it! These tools are meant to give support. The learning choice board is intended to provide a productive set of options for learners of all ages across many content areas. It has been created to give you ideas with a flexible structure for the coming days as you establish new routines at home and keep your children praying, learning, and moving!

Meanwhile, our staff members are designing a distance learning plan that will incorporate grade level expectations for your children and be aligned with the materials you picked up. This more formal structure will be available for all families by the week of March 30 if we are not back in session.

You should have received notification from the STMA District regarding meals that are being provided for students. This service is available to anyone 18 or under in the St.Michael-Albertville community and surrounding areas. For more information, go to https://www.stma.k12.mn.us/Page/5489

Tomorrow we will share an updated calendar or events.

Thank you for your prayers and please be assured of our prayers for all of you.
