Sometimes all it takes is a single moment for everything to change. A lease not renewed. A cut in work hours. A car that won’t start.

For Delaney,* that moment came when her landlord chose not to renew her lease in June. In an instant, she and her children had nowhere to go, and everything she owned was suddenly at-risk. Her church stepped in with a hotel stay, and every extra dollar went to food, gas, and her search for a stable home.

For Caleb,* a dad who worked hard to gain sobriety and custody of his daughter, that moment came when his work hours were cut, and his move-in costs slipped just out of reach.

That is when Keys to Change was able to help, thanks to our Flex Funds program – a program with special dollars set aside to help prevent or end homelessness.

These flexible funds can be used for the kinds of needs that traditional programs do not cover: storage costs, application fees, or move-in expenses. They meet people in those small but critical moments that can make the difference between housing and homelessness.

For Delaney, Caleb, and many more like them, things felt hopeless until Flex Funds bridged the gap.

Delaney’s storage costs were covered so she could keep her belongings safe while she searched for housing. Caleb’s move-in costs were covered, helping him and his daughter finally move into a home of their own.
