Stable Sheet - February 2023 Part 3
|
|
This part of your newsletter is for club requests to members, classified ads, and ways that you can advertise with MHAO. At the bottom you have access to information on your Board of Directors, Board meeting dates, etc. This section also includes important news for MHAO members from other organizations that affect the Equine Industry or that might be important to our members. If we are to be effective in our efforts to preserve and promote the Morgan breed of horse, we need to know what is going on around us.

Lease opportunity.
PBP Princess Love A Lee, 2007 Bay Mare, 14.3H (Rum Brook Immortal Prince x ATMF Love Lee Lady). Bella should be enjoyed more than I can give her right now.
Trained and shown by Jean Sauer, Rogue Hill Morgans in Pleasure Driving and was started western when I purchased her in 2013.
In 2021 Bella was leased and ridden in lessons, practice/conditioning hunt seat by 16 yo. girl. Ground covering, go forward walk, athletic extended trot, collected and extended canter/lope gaits which I want to retain. A lead horse, not a follower. I would like her to be trained for neck reining.
Lease duration, disciplines TBD. I will be engaged throughout the lease and her advocate; not disruptive.
1978 through 1980, I leased Morgan horses for my Jr. Exhibitor 14-17 competition years under the direction of Sue Woodson.
This is a very special mare to me! I will not be selling her and 'may' want to breed her in spring/summer 2023 (negotiable).

The Oregon Horse Council works hard to maintain the rights of equestrians across Oregon, but with progressive movement to decrease our trail access, eliminate our land, stop the usage of animals for sport and pleasure and much more – we need to increase our voice! We are excited to launch a Legislative Affairs Committee who will assist our board with taking a stand against the legislation that can negatively impact our industry’s way of life. We invite you to apply to join our committee!

US Equestrian Now Accepting 2023 Grant Applications for Licensed Official Development
|
|
USEF members who meet the eligibility requirements and have an active licensed official application may apply, whether they are interested in obtaining their first USEF license or seeking a promotion in their respective breed or discipline. Grants are intended to reduce financial barriers for USEF or U.S. Féderation Équestre Internationale officials to complete application requirements, such as traveling to apprentice at a competition or attend a licensed official clinic. In 2022, 19 individuals were approved to receive a USEF Licensed Official Grant amounting to a total of $11,700.
The 2023 grants will be offered in two categories—general and U35. General grants will be considered based on the competition environment’s need for more officials or higher-level officials. The U35 grants provide an opportunity to support individuals under the age of 35 to become a licensed official or apply for a promotion.
All 2023 Licensed Official Grant Applications must be received before March 1, 2023.

New Broodmare Hall of Fame Medallions Designed By Maretta Kennedy-
|
|
The Morgan Broodmare Hall of Fame was established to address the significance of mares’ contributions to Morgan breeding. This designation is given to mares who have produced a minimum of three offspring that have won a world championship in any division at the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show® There are currently 85 mares inducted into the Morgan Broodmare Hall of Fame.
AMHA is now awarding greater recognition of these important Morgans. Starting in 2023, the current recorded owner of each mare inducted into the Broodmare Hall of Fame will receive a beautiful medallion designed by Maretta Kennedy. We have begun sending mailings to the current recorded owners of these horses to verify their shipping address for the medallion.
We are proud to honor those mares and those associated with them who have continued to produce champion offspring time and time again. This award will also continue to honor those inducted into the program into the future.
Click here to learn more about the program and see those who have earned this status.

Share Your "View from My Saddle"
|
|
AMHA members, remember you are invited to submit "View from My Saddle" columns for publication in The Morgan Horse magazine. Your submission should be brief (roughly 800 words) first person accounts of activities with your Morgan horse outside of the competition arenas. So share your stories, your personal triumphs, your preferred past times, and your treasured moments with our readers.
Send your article as a Word document with one to two high-resolution photos for illustration to stephen@morganhorse.com. We'll produce it for use in a future issue.

“Dollars for DNA” is a new program developed by the AMHA Welfare & Rescue Committee to provide free DNA testing kits to registered 501(c)(3) rescues that help Morgan horses who find themselves in “at-risk” situations. Currently, a DNA Testing Kit costs $50 per horse (which covers the actual cost of the testing).
The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust (AMHECT), a 501(c)(3) organization, collects and distributes the funds. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Initial funding of the program was through a fundraiser at The Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show® in October 2021, fundraising by the AMHA Youth, and generous matching funds from the Heidi E. Kunkel Foundation and the Law Office of Kathryn Kirsch, PLLC. The longevity of this program is dependent upon ongoing donations and support.
If you would like to donate to “Dollars for DNA,” please make your check payable to AMHECT and mail it to the AMHA Office (4037 Iron Works Parkway Ste 130, Lexington, KY 40511-8508) or click HERE.
