Greetings MHAO members-
Here it is August and summer is slowly coming to an end. Every now and then, there is a slight change in the evening air letting us know that our beautiful Autumn days are coming. No worries though..there is still enough summer left for you all to get out and enjoy your beautiful Morgans!
August brings another special event to celebrate our Morgans..at the Oregon State Fair! The Oregon State Fair offers Open To All Breed classes in Western, Hunt and Saddle Seat. In addition, there are three Morgan only classes, Western Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure and 17 and under Hunter/Saddle Seat. This is a great opportunity to bring your Morgan out and show not only in the Morgan classes but in the OTAB classes. What better way to show the public that the Morgan is still present and is still as versatile and competitive as the breed has always been.
| |
| |
For information regarding the Oregon State Fair Horse Show, please go to the Oregon State Fair website and go to the Competitions tab and select “Horse Shows”. All the information regarding the horse show can be found there.
Erin Silver will once again be promoting our breed by showing her mare and representing MHAO with a promotions table in the barn. She is willing to put together a team for the Battle of the Breeds which will be held on Thursday, Aug. 28th. If you are interested in being a part of the breed challenge, please contact Erin at 971-600-8933.
Continue to enjoy your Morgans!
Until next month....

| |
MHAO Needs Your Leadership!
Do you have ideas on how we can improve what our club offers? Do you have a desire to serve the Morgan community and to do what you can to preserve and promote the Morgan breed?
Here is an idea of what time is required - always subject to change and adaption:
- 2 In-Person meetings a year at Membership Events (currently at the Spring Clinic and Award Banquet, both with General Membership meetings)
- 1 optional In-Person meeting in January at the President's discretion. Could be a conference call.
- 7 Conference call meetings with 2 being optional at the President's discretion..
- Additional activity on the committee or committees of your choice. Get involved with the things that matter to you.
- And of cousre, we would like to see you at the Oregon Morgan Classic as an ambassador whether as an exhbitor or volunteer.
Are you familiar with the Microsoft Access software program using a PC computer? We need someone to manage our membership database this coming year.
Do you like to keep up on the news? A new Stable Sheet Editor is needed using Constant Contact.
The Stallion Service Auction and Futurity committees are looking for more members, too.
More information to follow.
If you are interested, contact Kathy Christensen. Let's talk! (805) 279-8179 or mike-kak@Q.com

| Do You Have Something For Sale? | | |
Do you have something for sale? I'm sure you do! People are always looking for something or have something they would like to sell. From horses to tack to property, vehicles, trailers, training, lessons, stallions standing, trails to ride on, other services or products; put your classified ad in the Stable Sheet. Members can sell anything here. Also post it on the MHAO Facebook pag between the 1st and 5th of each month.
YOUR CLASSIFIED LISTING IS FREE!! I'll even include a picture. Larger ads can be put into the Stable Sheet newsletter for a modest fee. Do you put on events or clinics? Summer Camps? Let us help you get the word out.
I have created a separate section of this newsletter for classified ads. If you give lessons or sell something on an ongoing basis, why not put it here and on our website? Do you stand a stallion? Offer training or give lessons?
Another idea, put your business card in the Stable Sheet.
Once you no longer need the classified ad, be sure to let me know.

Spotlight On Two Other MHAO Programs
| |
MHAO Ride/Drive Program
This Program Is For All MHAO Members -
Just Get Enrolled!
| | |
If you ride or drive a Morgan horse, you should be enrolled in this program! Very few of our members are.
Close date to turn in your hours for this year's awards prior to this year's Award Banquet is October 15th
This program was established to recognize ALL our members who ride or drive their Morgan horse. You don't need to be competing in anything or showing your horse. Riding or driving at home or on the trail counts. That siad, those that show can turn in their hours as well. You will be rewarded for what you do. It is not a competition.
The only riding or driving time that doesn't count is time in front of a judge at a Morgan show. ALL your time at an Open show counts, even in front of a judge. So get enrolled and start tallying up all that time you are practicing, warming up, enjoying a trail ride, everything or just enjoying that connection time with your horse. Earn patches and prizes that will be handed out at the annual MHAO Award Banquet. We want to see you there!
After October 15th, start tallying you hours for the next year.
There is a one time enrollment fee that stays with you for the life of your membership in MHAO. Just don't let it lapse. Let's go! Those patches will help make people aware that you are riding or driving a Morgan horse. Many wonderful conversations have started just this way! This is a great way to help us all add people to our Morgan community. Remember, those who buy their first Morgan horse from an MHAO member will get their membership for the year of purchase for free. Have them fill out a membership form and say who they bought their horse from on the form. Your club needs to grow! You can help!

| | MHAO Open Incentive Program | | |
When I ask people to join MHAO, sometimes they say "What's In It For Me"! Well this program is one of my answers. Not only do you become a member of our wonderful Morgan community, get discounts on education and advertising, but with this program an individual can get back their membership fee. And this club does offer a lot of benefits. More than any other club in the Western Region! This Stable Sheet is another benefit. The Open Incentive program is designed to give our members a monetary reward for getting their Morgan horse out in front of other people - people who are not already involved with Morgan horses or who have a Morgan horse but are not members of MHAO. This program is all about growing our membership and thanking you for helping to promote our breed.
Get reimbursed for up to $10 per event and up to $30 per year for attending clinics, open shows, clinics, trail rides, parades, or any other events where you take your Morgan horse and pay a fee. See the above flyer for examples. Turn in your receipts and the reimbursement form within 30 days of the event.
No Enrollment fee
Click here to download the Open Incentive Flyer
Click here to download a reimbursement form
For questions or more information, contact Sandi Humphfres at firemed13@yahoo.com.
NOTE: This program does not reimburse members for attending MHAO events where members already receive a discount. Reimbursement rates may change each year as determined by the MHAO Board of Directors.

Hey everyone, as most know our Mickey (aka Walt Disney) ended up in the hospital at the beginning of this year for colic and displaced colin. He was able to come out of it and make it to our Oregon Morgan Classic and seemed to be doing great, but now we have found ourselves right back where we started at the beginning of the year. We are back at the hospital with another go around of a possibly worse displaced colin and another colic. To be honest we are still pretty rung dry from all of his work at the beginning of the year or else I usually wouldn't be doing this but a dear friend started this page to try to make a way for us to save our special boy! We cannot express how much our Mickey means to us, he is truly special! We want to to everything we can to give him the biggest fighting chance to come out on top of this!! We could nor express how much we would appreciate anything support and prayers!! Thank you all!

Update on 7/19/2025
What words can I even say about this past week!! Our 11 year old Mickey! Our wonderful friend and family member! And to us even know we are bias one of the most impressive hunter horses around. Was struggling for life this last week! My Mercy tapped me on shoulder in the night letting me know something was wrong outside and Mickey was calling for her. We soon found out that he had slipped his colan out of place again!! He had done this 5 months ago as well. So no colic insurance on the big guy this time. We were at a loss no way to afford surgery and desperately wanting to save him. But at the same time knowing this was not fair to keep putting him through this if he was going to do this chronically. Off to the hospital we went with him.. My wonderful friends set up a go fund me page for us. And such dear dear friends contributed to his vet bill. By early Sunday morning it was put him down or do emergency surgery on him. After wrestling with this and speaking to dear friends and praying. We decided to go with surgery. Thank the Lord they found the cause of the 2 colics. A large stone had been making its way through his intestines and found its way into his small colan completely blocking it. The surgery was a success and they feel he will make a full recovery! He is exhausted but doing well. I can not describe what it means to us to have such dear friends that would be willing to contribute to saving the life of our Mickey!! Mercy is so so thankful anyone would do that for her!! The recovery will be long and hard. But you all have made it possible for Mickey to continue to write his story. Mickey the Morgan. He did choose his Mercy and mercy loves him dearly! and all of us love him so!! These words are not enough but they are all I have!! THANK YOU All that contributed to saving our boy!!!

Erin Joyce Boyes
Missing horse from Joe Graham horse camp in Mt Hood wilderness (near Timothy Lake) Oregon. Caspian escaped from camp Wednesday 6/25. No tack or halter.
15.2 hand silver bay mustang (dark brown with blonde mane/tail) Please text or call Erin
If anyone sees him and has OnX hunt or offline maps please drop a pin .
UPDATE: DAY 16 Friday 7/11
STILL NO SIGN OF CASPIAN
I spent the week searching for him, trudging through meadows. I did not see any hoof prints or poop. While not the outcome i was hoping for, the meadows are abundant and he could be in any of them. Plenty of lush grass and water. The horse camp is very close to the boundary of Warm Springs reservation, so there are meadows he could have easily walked to, but I wasn’t able to explore them due to strict tribal laws about trespassing. A pilot did go up searching last Sunday and did not see him, but she wasn't able to get as low as she hoped in some areas, due to the wind.
I can tell you that every single horseback rider I spoke with this week, already knew about Caspian and was riding with treats and an extra halter. That was incredibly touching to see. Our horse community is amazing!!
6 weeks and still no sign nor sightings of Caspian (I guess his name should have been Casper the ghost) I had a tracker contact me and has graciousously offered to go searching for signs of him soon. I will update as I hear more.
I did post flyers in camp grounds, on the PCT and surrounding trails.
I truly beleive he is out there in some lush meadow somewhere getting fat. I just hope he gets lonely soon and seeks out other horses.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everyone’s willingness to help and your encouragement. His story is being shared and getting out there and I have all of you to thank for that!! I cannot even whohow humbled and grateful I am.
~Erin (425)-923-9462
UPDATE: 8/8/2026

I have been exploring the world of liberty for over 15 years. I've been through it all, and now I'd love to help you get here without making the same mistakes I made!
If you have already started but want to learn more, this is also for you. Not all forms of liberty are the same, and I would love to share my approach with you, hopefully providing some inspiration moving forward.
At the end of this webinar, you will also receive a very special offer to help give you a head-start in The Essence of Liberty Online Academy!

Finding the right feel in your reins starts with your fingers. Too loose, and you lose connection. Too tight, and you risk tension in the whole body,
yours and your horse’s.
Let’s break it down:
a. Correct – Fingers softly closed, fingertips touching the palm. You maintain light, consistent contact without gripping.
b. Incorrect – Fingers open. This weakens the connection and creates an unstable line to the bit.
c. Incorrect – Fist clenched. Tension travels up the arm, restricting softness in the hand and communication with your horse.
It’s all about that sweet spot: closed enough to hold, soft enough to feel.
I admit, back in the day I rode more on my finger tips. But then I was always adjusting my reins to keep from choking up on the curb rein. If I was still riding, I would have to experiment with this. I always rode with two reins.

2025 Hall of Fame
So Well Deserved!
| | |
We are pleased to welcome Bob and Deb Stevenson into the 2025 C-Fair Morgan Regional and Open Horse Show Hall of Fame.
Bob and Deb Stevenson have been influential contributors to the Pacific Northwest Morgan community for decades. Their impact has been felt across breeding, exhibiting, and service to the breed — both regionally and nationally. As breeders, Bob and Deb produced 10+ successful offspring who went on to make their own marks in the show ring and breeding shed. In addition, their program, led by Forest Nealon, developed multiple world champion show horses, contributing to the legacy and visibility of Morgan excellence in the Pacific Northwest.
Deb has given thousands of volunteer hours to our regional show and other Pacific Northwest events - ensuring that exhibitors, horses, and families had opportunities to grow, compete, and connect. Her kind spirit, warmth, and reliability helped some of the Pacific Northwest events succeed. Since 1997 they have been a faithful sponsor of many of the Pacific Northwest Morgan horse shows. Always willing to step up and help the shows be successful.
Deb’s commitment didn't stop at just our Pacific Northwest show. In 2013 Deb was co-chair for the AMHA National Convention in Portland Oregon which is still ranked as one of the most Successful Conventions for AMHA. Deb also served on the Grand National and Morgan World Championship Horse show committee. Bob always helping and supporting along the way.
As ambassadors, Bob, Cassie and Deb Stevenson's contributions span generations of horses and horse people. Their influence has shaped not only competitive success, but also the values and the culture of the Morgan Community we are all proud to be part of. Thank you Bob and Deb Stevenson for your years of dedication to the Morgan horse. Bob and Deb Stevenson 2025 Hall of Fame inductees.

We are pleased to welcome Beckridge Royal Pat into the 2025 C-Fair Charity Morgan Regional and Open Horse Show Hall of Fame.
When you think of the Quintessential Morgan horse that has done it all Beckridge Royal Pat comes to mind. Born in 1974 to the famous Beckridge Farm here in the Pacific Northwest. Seeing his true potential, he was purchased by Sandra Nichols as a young colt. His life began in Alaska before locating with her to Arlington Washington. When Kristina Hoover saw him, it was love at first sight and he was purchased by Larry and Katie Hoover. What began was an outstanding partnership.
That partnership would span the rest of Patrick’s life. And oh what a grand life he had. He excelled in 4-H shows, Introducing many newcomers to the Morgan horse. He also attended A-rated shows, Regionals and the Grand National and Morgan World Championship horse show. Patrick showed what a versatile Morgan looks like. He took countless victory passes for three generations of horse women. Katie Hoover, Kristina Hoover, Kasey Hoover, and Melissa Monty.
His awards are too numerous to mention, but some highlights include:
- He was the 1983 World Champion Trail horse. The first one that was awarded.
- 1984 Reserve World Champion Western Pl Jr exhibitor and Amateur,
- 1989 World Champion Jr Western Seat Equitation.
- He has had the honor of being named ASHA Horse of the year, AMHA Bronze Competition Bronze Medal
- He appeared on the cover of the Morgan horse Magazine in the June 1987 issue.
- He has starred in Birthday barn parties, Wedding photos, Christmas parades and community events.
Patrick was known to many as the “Original Party Animal” Each year the entire neighborhood looked forward to celebrating his birthday with him. Patrick retired from the show ring in 1998. When laid to rest he was laid to rest with a bed of his ribbons - fitting for a truly special Morgan and a life well live. Tonight we honor this truly special horse and all he did for not only his loving family but for the Morgan breed. We induct Beckridge Royal Pat to the C-Fair Morgan Regional Hall of Fame.

We are pleased to welcome Chris Laine into the 2025 C-Fair Morgan Regional and Open Horse Show Hall of Fame!
Chris Laine was introduced to the Morgan Community in the 90’s and was drawn to the Morgan because of their great versatility and intelligence. Seeing a great niche for the Morgan Horse she immediately jumped in. Actively supporting Morgans in Dressage. She knew the Morgan’s potential to “shine” in the Dressage ring and ran with it. Chris worked with the Morgan Horse Club of Washington State to get Dressage classes added to the Key Classic horse show in the early 2000’s. Chris served as the sole sponsor and manager of the division to ensure it’s success. And what a success! The Dressage at Key Classic and C-Fair as well as the other Pacific Northwest Horse show has grown to an average of 50+ rides per show and now is expanded to 2 days. Chris is the Dressage coordinator at the PNW Show and has served on the Morgan horse Club of Washington State Board and helped Coordinate the Morgan horse club of Washington banquet.
Chris was an early advocate for bringing our Morgans to open dressage shows. Her SGP Raizin Kane showed successfully through third level in open competitions across the region. ( SGP Raizin Kane was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022). Many people would approach her and ask, “What breed is your horse?”, often confusing him for either a small warmblood cross or a German riding pony. She would always proudly reply, “My horse is a Morgan.” Chris’s passion and dedication for Morgans in dressage has made an indelible mark on our Pacific Northwest Morgan community and has created the ongoing opportunity for us to showcase our amazing Morgans in this discipline. She is an inspiration to so many! We are pleased to honor Chris Laine as a 2025 C-Fair Morgan Regional Hall of Fame Inductee.
