Hello everyone,
What a wonderful Grand National Show! And MHAO and the Northwest were so well represented by the barns that made the journey. See highlights in Section 2 of this newsletter.
Next up is our virtual MHAO General Membership meeting! See below for instructions on how to attend. Don't miss it! I look forward to hearing from Tony Lee about what is ahead for AMHA. And your Board wants to hear from you.

Meantime, if you are raising a 2020 Morgan foal, please consider entering that foal into the MHAO Breeders' Cup Futurity. You can find information later in this newsletter or on our website. The original nomination fee is $45 if received before December 31st. We are proud to continue this tradition as we are the only traditional futurity we know of in the Western Region.
We also offer the only Stallion Service Auction in the Western Region that encompasses the whole breed. If you have a stallion, I hope you will consider either donating a breeding or advertising your stallion in our annual Futurity publication. We are looking for other items for people to bid on as well as breedings. Do you have something you are willing to donate? Proceeds from the auction go to support the Futurity.
No matter who gets elected President of the USA, life will go on, and I'm looking forward to no more political ads on TV for a few years. I'm also looking forward to a COVID vaccine so we can get on with life and have our shows next year. No matter if you think it works or not, please wear your mask when you are out and about or if you have guests so we have a better chance of moving on from this thing.
This is my last message to you as your President. Thank you to all our Board members, volunteers, supporters & members. You are why we are able to exist, and why we have made progress financially and in offering additional programs over the last several years. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve with you. If elected, I will continue to serve as a Board Director. You have a great Board of Directors!

MHAO Stallion Service Auction

We would love to have the opportunity to promote your stallion. Here are the benefits we offer for the stallion owner:
- Press releases on Northwest Morgan News, MHAO newsletter (Stable Sheet), MHAO website, MHAO Facebook Page & the MHAO Stallion Service Auction Facebook Page, in The Morgan Horse Magazine, on The Blast, etc. There is heavy emphasis on advertising the stallions included in our auction.
- The Stallion Auction will be promoted at the Oregon Morgan Classic (OMC) Horse Show & donated stallions will be highlighted. OMC is the largest Morgan Horse Show in the State and even the Northwest.

ATTENTION! The name of all stallions with a bid will be put into a hat for a drawing. The winner will receive a free 2-page spread in the 2021 MHAO Breeders' Cup Futurity Booklet. This is a new benefit that was added in 2019.

Each stallion donated receives a full page dedicated to them in the MHAO Breeders' Cup Futurity Booklet. This is a high quality magazine distributed up and down the West Coast & at Grand Nationals.
- Bonus payments are made to breeders and stallion owners when a foal that is the result of a breeding sold through the MHAO Stallion Service Auction becomes a Futurity Sweepstakes Champion or Reserve Champion at the Oregon Morgan Classic Horse Show.
Funds from the MHAO Stallion Service Auction support the MHAO Breeders’ Cup Futurity which is the only known traditional Futurity in the Western Region. Morgan Horse Association of Oregon Breeder’s Cup Futurity classes will be held at the Oregon Morgan Classic Horse Show held in June each year at the Oregon Horse Center in Eugene Oregon.
Minimum starting bid is $700, or an amount set by the stallion owner (higher or lower, but no lower than $500). Bidding is open from January 15th to early April.

A 72-year-old Waterford woman and her 29-year-old horse have been inducted into a national club that honors senior horseback riders.
Gloria Crawford and her horse, a Morgan named Equinox Ebony Knight, will join 430 other riders across the nation as members of the The Dressage Foundation's Century Club. To become a member, the ages of the rider and their horse must total 100-years or more and they must compete in a dressage test. Dressage is a specific type of horseback riding competition in which the rider performs a set of predetermined maneuvers.
Crawford, a retired legal secretary, has been in love with horses ever since she was a child, she said. But it wasn’t until the age of 52 that she was able to carry out the lifelong dream of owning one.
Gloria Crawford, 72 of Waterford, rides her nearly 30-year-old horse at Meadowland Farms in Davison. The pair were recently honored nationally for their competition abilities at their combined ages by the Dressage Foundation.
“I was the little girl who played with horse figurines instead of dolls, and whenever we would pass a horse in a field driving, I would have to stop and watch,” Crawford said. “At 52-years-old, I found myself wondering if I was

too old for this. And then I thought, if I don't grab this chance while I can, I’ll regret it the rest of my life.”
Kim Robbins, equestrian enrichment trainer at Meadowland Farm in Davison, pins a Dressage Foundation Century Club ribbon onto Equinox Ebony Knight.
Through a sale she found with her sister-in-law, Crawford met and purchased Ebony when he was 10-years-old. He had come from California as a competitive show horse. The two had an instant connection, Crawford said. He was the last horse she saw in the barn that day. They’ve been riding together ever since, competing up until a few years ago.
“It’s a pretty big deal to be inducted into the Century Club,” said Kim Robbins, equestrian enrichment trainer at Meadowland Farm in Davison where Ebony is stabled. “The horse has to be pretty old and it says a lot about the people taking care of those horses to get them to that age to show and compete still.”
Crawford rides about two to three times a week, having had both knees replaced in order to keep up the sport into her 70s. She continues to take lessons with Ebony, who she said is still enjoying learning new tricks and maneuvers in his golden years.

“It’s really exciting (to be inducted), I never thought I would have a horse, let alone be of an age to ride one in the Century Club and to ride a horse I’ve known all these years,” Crawford said.

2020 Morgan Superior Sweepstakes
November 20th, 2020
The Directors of the Superior Morgan Sale have announced a new program for their 2020 sale and beyond. The Superior Sale has become the largest event of the year for the Amish Morgan breeding community, and the team is building an event fitting of that setting. This November, it will be launching the Superior Sweepstakes. The goal is to make this the most lucrative program for all Morgan breeders, Amish and English alike. With more than 80 stallions already entered, it is well on its way to achieving that goal.
All Morgan stallions are invited to donate a service to this year’s service auction, which will be held November 20, at the Superior Morgan Sale at the Michiana Event Center in Shipshewana, Indiana. All the money raised at the service auction will be pooled together and paid out in the 2022 Superior Weanling Sweepstakes. The goal for the first year is to pay out more than $60,000 in prize money in one class. Only two foals by each stallion will be eligible: one produced by the winning bidder in the auction, and the other produced by the stallion owner.
Following are the benefits to the Morgan Stallion owner:
- Promotion of your stallion on one of the biggest stages in all of the Morgan world. (More than 2,000 Morgan enthusiasts attend the Superior Sale every year).
- As the stallion owner, a stallion service donation secures a nomination for one of your own weanlings to compete in the Superior Weanling Sweepstakes.
- Become a part of the team working to drive the Morgan industry forward, creating even better show horses and marketing opportunities for the future.
More and more over the last few years, the Amish and English communities have been coming together through their mutual love and respect for the Morgan Horse. This event will be a huge leap forward, as Amish and English Morgan breeders will compete for a huge prize purse and then stand side by side to bid on some of the top Morgan horses in the country at the Superior Morgan Sale.
The donation of one stallion service could come back to you as the winner’s check in one of the biggest money Morgan classes in history.
Stallion service donations will be accepted all the way up to November 2 to accommodate as many stallions as possible for the first year. An application form is available at

Tip:
A common issue for attendees is that their computer speakers are muted or the volume is set low. Check for that. If speakers still don't work on your computer, you can use your phone for the audio and still watch the meeting.
Other Options:
If the link provided doesn't work on your computer/Smartphone, open your internet browser.
Type: join.zoom.us in the address bar.
Enter meeting ID: 3191994249 or personal link name - doana.anderson
Click: Join
You should get a message saying
"download and run Zoom"
Do this and allow the application (program) to install. It should then take you to the meeting waiting room.

- When the dialog box comes up, click on "download and run Zoom". Your computer w>l attempt to download the .exe file. Close the window that is downloading and do not run.

If you go back to the original screen, a new message appears: "If you cannot download or run the application, join from your browser". Click on the link to join from your browser.
When system dialog prompts, click Open Zoom Meetings.

Waiting Room:
For extra security, participants might go into a waiting room when they first join the meeting. The host will allow you to enter the meeting.
Audio:
If you have a lot of background noise, please keep yourself muted unless you are speaking. If background noise becomes distracting, the host can mute the participant. At the start of the meeting, everyones microphone will be muted.

Computer Audio: A window will be open that allows you to select Computer Audio and test your microphone and speakers. Make sure that your computer is not muted or the volume set too low. To unmute click on the mic icon at the bottom of the screen.

Phone Audio while using your computer to watch meeting: You can participate in the meeting on the computer and use your phone for audio at the same time. Dial 1-253-215-8782, ID: 319 199 4249# If you have already joined the meeting via computer, you will have the option to enter your 6-digit participant ID to be associated with your computer.
Video:
You may turn on your camera if you like by clicking on the camera icon on the bottom left of the screen.
Views:
There are two types of views in Zoom, "Speaker" and "Gallery". Speaker view shows the active speaker, gallery view tiles all of the meeting participants. The view can be selected at the top right hand of the computer screen.
Chat:
Click on the Chat icon to enter a message during the meeting. It can be to everyone or to an individual participant.
Participant List:
Opens a screen that includes a "Raise Hand" icon that you may use to raise a virtual hand.
Share Screen:
The host can give permission to anyone who wishes to share a screen from their computer with the group. The participant clicks on the green Share Screen icon at the bottom of the page. A window will pop up with the screen options to choose from. To end sharing, click on the red message at the top of the page.
