From Your Board Of Directors | |
|
Hi all,
And our last Nationals in the Jim Norick arena in Oklahoma City OK is underway. So exciting! Best wishes to all who are competing there.
At the same time, our prayers go out to all the people affected by Hurricane Helene. It is hard to imagine the full scope of what they are going thru. They need help, and will continue to need it for a long time.

This is my final year as your club president. I have greatly enjoyed serving you. I love the Morgan breed and all the Morgan people I know and have met. You are all very special. I will continue to serve on the Board for at least another year, but after that I need to start slowing down. That means we need someone or a group of people to take over the publication of the monthly Stable Sheet, someone to pick up the management of our Stallion Service Auction and someone to manage our Futurity. Any volunteers? This year you can join one of these committees as a volunteer and I can mentor you if you like.
Clubs play an important part in preserving and promoting the Morgan breed. Not only do they serve their membership, they work to promote the breed in a coordinated way, and to bring in new Morgan horse owners to our community. MHAO is also the keeper of the only remaining Morgan horse show in Oregon. I hope more of you will get involved in any way you can. You are needed. The Stable Sheet is an important way to promote communication and involvement among us. One way to help keep our newsletter going is to place ads or your business card into this publication. Rates to do so are very reasonable. That helps us to offset our cost for using the Constant Contact program. It is a way that MHAO can encourage inner trade within the Morgan community. Let others know what you do. Another is to sponsor a program or be a sponsor of the Oregon Morgan Classic. If you have ideas of other things the club should be doing, I hope you will step forward and let your voice be heard.
Ballots should be hitting your email address very shortly if they have not already. We need you to vote. Doana has made it very easy for you to vote right off the email you will receive. The results will be announced at our Award Banquet on November 10th. We hope to see you there. More information about the banquet can be found later in this Stable Sheet. We will provide your meal at the banquet, and this year we want to celebrate in more of a party atmosphere. Bring a dessert for the Silent Auction and.....
Come Join Us! Let's party!

Here is our latest list of members as of August 11th. If you have not renewed yet, please do. If you know someone who owns a Morgan horse but is not a current member, please ask them to join. We are stronger together. Our local Morgan community needs MHAO to help with the preservation and promotion of this wonderful breed. MHAO offers a full array of programs for our members which can be seen on our website - www.morganhorseoregon.com. MHAO needs members and their voices to remain a viable and highly valued organization here to serve the Morgan community.
Individual Membership - $30 (gives you 1 vote)
Family Membership - $35 (gives you 2 votes)
Dues received in September or after cover your 2025 membership year
Another way you can help: if an MHAO member sells a Morgan horse to a first time Morgan owner, that new owner can have a free MHAO membership in the year of purchase. Just fill out a membership form with them and send it to Karen Breckenridge as outlined on the form. Where it asks for payment information write "First Time Morgan Owner", who you bought the horse from, and sign your name. It will be our job to earn their paid membership thereafter. Send me their email address so I can add them to our distribution list for the Stable Sheet. sunstonemorgans@comcast.net

Our Date Is Set For the
2025 Oregon Morgan Classic
June 18-21, 2025
Our date is set for next year's Oregon Morgan Classic Horse Show. We have negotiated with the Oregon Horse Center to consistently have the 3rd weekend in June from now going forward (next to the last weekend in the month). This should prevent us from being in conflict with other shows and give the Oregon Horse Center the time they need to be ready for us.
Plans are already underway for an exciting show with a streamlined schedule that still offers a full array of classes. We hope to see you there!

As a regular feature, I would love to start including information in this newsletter about breeding programs, stallions and mares out of history in the Northwest. Also about local stallions now and in the past, or stallions who may have been located elsewhere but were used a lot for breeding in our Western Region. Do you have pictures and information or a story you can share?

September 8, 2024 by American Association of Equine Practitioners
Summer and fall are the peak time for arbovirus infection as these diseases (which include Eastern Equine Encephalitis [EEE], West Nile Virus [WNV], Western Equine Encephalitis [WEE] and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis [VEE]) are transmitted by several different species of mosquitoes and biting insects.
With more states reporting cases of West Nile Virus (28 cases have been reported in August as of today), this is your reminder to keep your horses up to date on vaccinations with the guidance of your veterinarian to best protect your equine friends from infection.
Learn more about West Nile Virus and find downloadable resources on the Equine Disease Communication Center‘s website at: https://www.equinediseasecc.org/west-nile-virus
