Center ring was stunning this year. It was orchestrated by Paula Hague utilizing the services of Eden Nursery. All the beautiful flowers and greenery were for sale at the end of the show. Thank you Paula!
Kelly McFaul, our Show Secretary and Nancy Harvey, our Show Manager. Always on top of things. Always helpful. Always smiling. We are so lucky to have you!
James, Sierra, & Karen Breckenridge - the heart of our show committee. Karen is our Show Chair and kept everything moving smoothly!
All of our team did a fantastic job at organizing and managing the show. Karen along with Kelly and Nancy solved every challenge with seeming ease, with most issues totally invisible to those who were there to show. They are all amazing. Jim worked hard as our Vice Chair of the Show Committee, and Sierra is always there to help wherever needed - especially with Youth of the Year activities. And they still found time to show!

All of our team was wherever they needed to be to get the show set up, set up or tear down anything, keep things going on schedule, and to close down the show when it was over. It is a lot of work. We couldn't do it without them.

Thank you so much for all your hard work!
Our Photographer - Thank You Richard
Richard is a great photographer and also takes pictures at Nationals. We are so lucky to have him. In 2023 Richard will expand his booth at OMC to include viewing stations so people can look at their pictures at the show.

The Oregon Morgan Classic Silent Auction
Thank You - Shelley Bullard for organizing our Silent Auction, Amy Duvall for her assistance, and all the others who helped. And thank you to all who brought items for the auction as well as all our bidders - we appreciate your support of the Oregon Morgan Classic and our Alex Mooney Scholarship Program. This year some items were ear marked for our Futurity program as well.

The auction brought in over $2,800.

(R) Shelley after she finished getting the Silent Auction all set up. It's a big job! (I couldn't resist Shelley - just kidding with the picture). Again, thank you to Shelley Bullard, and all those who helped her.

She is eligible for a $400 reimbursement toward her expenses from the Morgan Horse Association of Oregon/Oregon Morgan Classic Horse Show fund. Receipts are required to receive the reimbursement. The other senior contestants for Youth of the year were Lulu Dizon (2nd place) and Cassidy Huggins (3rd place). Choosing a winner was not easy. You were all very competitive.

Our Youth of the Year Walk/Trot competitors were Brooklyn Duvall for 1st place, Kyla Edwards for 2nd place, Ashlyn Edwards for 3rd place, Eden Gillard 4th place, & Eleanor Nicholson for 5th place. All of your contributions to the contest were delightful! We hope to see all of you again next year.

Nancy Falk
Our thanks to the Nancy Falk Trust for their donation in support of the Oregon Morgan Classic Youth of the Year competition. The donation was made under the direction of Robbie Falk & Kathy DeFazio and provided the funding used to pay for the activities & purchase the awards for this program.
Pictured above is Nancy Falk on her beloved palomino Morgan mare, Gwen. Nancy was a Morgan breeder who wanted to do all she could to encourage our youth and the addition & support of more color in the Morgan breed.
Morgan Incentive Bonus at OMC
The Morgan Horse Association of Oregon and Oregon Morgan Classic Horse Show Committee wanted to show those who attend our show how much we appreciate them. To do that, MHAO created the Incentive bonus. Two drawings for $500 each took place just before the Saturday Night session: one for those listed as trainers on their entry forms and one for exhibitors. Participants are entered into this drawing automatically from their entry form, but need to be present Saturday night when the drawing takes place to win. If their name is drawn and they are not present, another name is drawn.
Our 2022 Winners Are!

MHAO Breeders' Cup Futurity
MHAO offers the only remaining traditional futurity in all of the Western Region. It was started in 2010 to aid in the promotion and development of horses owned by MHAO members. Our ultimate goal is to support Morgan horse breeders throughout the Western Region. The Futurity is designed as a 5-yr program offering halter classes for 0-2-yr-olds, and performance classes for 2-yr-olds to 4-yr-olds. There are also two Sweepstakes classes - One for yearlings all together and one for 2-yr-olds all together. Those who placed 1st or 2nd in their qualifying halter class can move on to their Sweepstakes class. If our Sweepstakes champions or reserve champions are the result of a breeding purchased thru our Stallion Service Auction, bonus payments are made to the stallion owner and to the breeder of that horse.

We provide special coverage of the dams of our Sweepstake winners in the next year's version of the MHAO Breeders' Cup Futurity Booklet, which is available to pick up at our show and others in the Western Region. It is also available at Nationals. The booklet highlights the stallions in our auction that year as well as all the horses currently nominated to our futurity.
Classes for the Futurity are offered at the Oregon Morgan Classic Horse Show. Futurity fees and fund raisers including the Stallion Service Auction we offer at the beginning of the year provide the prize money for all the Futurity classes. Donations are always welcome for anyone who wants to add their support. At the end of the program, the 4-yr-old horse that has earned the highest number of points in futurity classes will win a High Point Award which includes a trophy and an additional monetary prize.

Here are pictures of some of the horses who competed in the Futurity classes this year:
Altair Carry On won the 2-yr-old Futurity Halter Class. He was also the 2-yr-old Futurity Sweepstakes Champion. He was shown by Eduardo Zavala Sanchez for owner Diane Pixlee.
Moonrune Tempest Sonata, owned & ridden by Sierra Breckenridge, won the 4-yr-old Futurity Hunter Pleasure class.
TFF Devon with Erin Silver up, won the 4-yr-old Futurity Western Pleasure class. She also won the Futurity High Point Award. She is owned by Mike & Kathy Christensen.
Pictured above is Erin Silver accepting this year's Futurity High Point Award from Karen Breckenridge for Mike & Kathy Christensen who own TFF Devon. Devon was the 4-yr-old who earned the most points in Futurity classes over the last 5-years of the Futurity. The Christensen's will receive their own award plaque to keep and TFF Devon and her breeder's name will be added to the perpetual award that the club will keep. A monetary award goes with this award and will be sent to Kathy & Mike. The High Point futurity program was designed by Anne Margaret Korver. She is also the sponsor of this part of the program.
Other Futurity winners -
  • C-King Stilleto owned by Susan King and shown by Diane Pixlee won the Yearling Filly Class and was our Yearling Sweepstakes Champion.

Your picture will also be included in the 2023 MHAO Breeders' Cup Futurity booklet that will come out next year. Please send me your pictures as soon as you can for the special issue. Thank you!

Cassidy Deveney-Huggins and Fieldcrest Astaire are learning what it takes to step up an age division. They had some smooth rides and possibly their best pattern to date!

Rebecca Smallridge and Fastrak Thunderbird:
  • From Megan - Rebecca Smallridge, I am so so proud of the rider you are becoming! Taking on new challenges, learning new skills, having fun, making new friends in the show ring! You have allowed yourself to step outside your comfort zone and there is no stopping you now!!
  • From Allison Gillard regarding Rebecca Smallridge - Mom, I am so proud of you! You have grown leaps and bounds in just two shows! You navigated and managed things in the show ring this past week like a champ! Now onto Las Vegas to tackle the Morgan Medallion!

Ashlyn Edwards and Little Miss Renegade:
Ashlyn and Zoe had some of their best moments/rides by far at the OMC show. I am so proud of her focus and commitment. Next up Vegas!!

From Joanna Hender regarding Levi Gillard. "What a beautiful smile on a handsome young cowboy. Congratulations on your 1st blue ribbon, Levi! Something tells me there will be more to come!

Brooke Gallagher got to do her debut Leadline at the OMC show. She waved at the crowd and had a blast! Our home bred 4 year old GFS Bella Rosa was a rock solid pony for little Brooke.

Eden Gillard & Shzgot Issues:
This pair has grown leaps and bounds since their first show in April. Sheza is all show horse and Eden is doing a great job staying focused and piloting this pretty mare. Congratulations on a great show Eden and Sheza!

A couple exciting and unexpected things happened on this trip:

-Ended up winning in-hand trail with GFS Bella Rosa (Another big thank you to Megan Gallagher for letting me have fun with your girl)
Overall a very fun and successful year at OMC!

Moonrune Morgans - Sierra Breckenridge, Jim & Karen Breckenridge

Jim Breckenridge's partner in Western Pleasure classes is Altair Rising Star. He was the Reserve Champion in the Western Pleasure Championship class.

I finally got some pictures of OMC together. All the horses did amazing at this show. Flirt had another great go at western dressage which won us high point for western dressage and overall high point for all of dressage! Rebel is getting better at first level, winning the classical dressage high point! Dante had his best go’s in second level scoring in the 60’s before going in sport horse in-hand to win champion! Mars and Tempest showed they were ready to go by having some really good rides in their classes. Dad and Mars have definitely come a long way and are becoming a pair in the show ring. Tempest is improving with each show under saddle and I could not be happier with her. Overall, we came away with 6 champions (3 of which were our high point wins), 3 reserve champions, and 14 first place wins. A very successful (and tiring) show. Can’t wait for the next one!

Sierra also won the trainer’s drawing for $500.
Colorful Morgan High Point Award, & Other Special Awards
Colorful Morgan Award
This year's Colorful Morgan Award goes to PL Dancing With Angels, owned by Mike & Erin Silver and shown by Kayla Robb in Western Dressage and Jr. Exhibitor classes (Hunt Seat & Western). Congratulations!

This award was established starting in 2018 from a donation made by the Nancy Falk Trust. There is a perpetual award that the club will keep and put on display at the next show as well as an award for the winner to keep. The winner also receives $500.

Nancy Falk was a long time Morgan owner and breeder who wanted to encourage and support more color in our breed. This program will continue until the donated funds designated for this purpose are depleted. Nancy also desired to support Youth Programs. An equal amount was donated to our Youth Of The Year program.

Our thanks to Robbie Falk and Kathy DeFazio for directing these funds to MHAO in Nancy Falk's memory and creating this award to be given at the Oregon Morgan Classic. More information about this program can be found on our website.

Alex Mooney Memorial Trophy
In honor of a life well lived!
Alexandra Mooney
April 4, 1992 – April 2, 2019
Alexandra M. Mooney was born in Corvallis April 4, 1992 and diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the young age of 3 years old. But the vivacious toddler nor the wonderful young woman that she became ever let that stand in her way. Throughout her life Alex faced life and her challenges head on choosing to embrace all that life could bring. Her courage and forbearance in dealing with her disease and through two double-lung transplants was an inspiration for all who knew her or of her. She had an army of supporters all across this country who not only supported her verbally or on Facebook, they also stepped forward whenever needed. Alex was very outgoing and never stopped smiling, never stopped having fun.
Alex loved the Morgan horse and was a World Champion Equestrian. She even fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a Professional Trainer. She passed away from complications related to Cystic Fibrosis just before her 27th birthday.
The members of the Morgan Horse Association of Oregon (MHAO) watched Alex grow up. To honor her we have established the Alex Mooney Memorial Trophy which will be given to the winner of the selected class at the Oregon Morgan Classic Horse Show. MHAO has also established a scholarship program in her name. Her memory will live on.

Alex’s last wish and the wish of her family is that people remember her and her story; that they learn more about Cystic Fibrosis and what people with the disease go through. They ask that people donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Alex’s name so that a cure can be found. A donation jar for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as well as information about the disease will be available at the show for this purpose each year
.
We will always remember you, Alex.
Above is a picture of a tribute to Alex that occurred at Nationals in 2019

The Jr. Exhibitor Western Pleasure Championship Class was selected for the Alex Mooney Memorial Trophy this year. Our winner was Kayla Ropp riding PL Dancing With Angels. Presenting the award was Sara Breyman, Alex's mother.
Congratulations Kayla! And thank you Sara.

The color of the banner is purple as a purple rose is often used to symbolize the fight against Cystic Fibrosis and was used to symbolize Alex's fight against this disease.
Again, thank you to all who attended &/or supported our show. We greatly appreciate you!
