A piezoelectric element can convert electrical energy into mechanical energy or vice-versa.  When incorporated into an air transducer, a piezo element can both generate an ultrasonic signal and receive an ultrasonic signal. Air transducers have multiple applications ranging from fluid level sensing to automobile backup sensing. Piezoelectric air transducers can be used as transmitters, receivers, or combination transmitter-receiver (transceiver) depending on the requirements of the application and the circuit design.
