THANK YOU!!
| |
Thank you to all involved in making Spotlight Bellevue a TREMENDOUS success last week!
Please join us in thanking our energetic and creative co-chairs, Dina Johnson and Ally Svenson, who were committed to creating an all-inclusive event that celebrated our new school and showcased our students.
A HUGE shout-out thank you to our Administration, including Scott Powers, Kristin Haizlip, Russell White, Lance Gatter, and their core leadership team, Brenda Conrad, Edd George, Dave Kline, Andrew Jacobson, Christi Chang, Debby Nixon, Faye Scannell, Sergio Martinez, Brad Conger, Sohelia Bodaghi, and our amazing custodial staff who lent their unique areas of expertise so that we parents could experience the diversity of our students. They spent countless hours working with our students and Dina and Ally to ensure a night of celebration.
Student leaders, some official, some just arriving to participate (and enjoy the food prepared by our students and multi-language families), helped set up, clean up, lead tours, watch the fabulous lion dance, greet our Bellevue School District personnel, parents and alumni with warm smiles and helpful dispositions.
Cheer and Drill Teams helped greet our guests and made signs to guide people through the school.
Our talented band and orchestra students, professionally dressed, played for us to enjoy in the Commons as well as gave their first performance in the beautiful Performing Arts Center. The Black Box Theatre showcased our amazing Scotland-bound drama students! The excitement was palpable and pride in We are Bellevue was contagious!
A special thank you to our many PTSA volunteers that sent emails to friends and family (we don't know who you all are, but thank YOU for spreading the word) and supported the evening's events in many ways: Jose Acosta, Junko Akagi, Keiko Araki, Miki Asahara, Peggy Brewer, Alice Change, Margie Chen, Yen Lin Chiang, Soyeon Choi, Stella Choi, Julia Chon, Carolyn Clark, Lisa Floyd, Teri Harmeyer, Naoko Iwamoto, Min Min Jiang, Julie Kadavy, Kaori Kawazoe, Jihee Kim, Haruka Kojima, Alex Kruse, Juoling Lee, Cindy Lohman, Miriam McCarthy, Paula Melby, Linda Mui, Jungsoo Oh, Wendy Paisley,Seungeun Pak, Nari Park, Alex Plyushchenko, Teri Pool, Sandra Prang, Keiko Sato, Juliane Schmidt, Kirsti Sheeran, Xiapin Song, Wenbin Su, Yuki Tabor, Teresa Urquhart, Hope Weiskopf, Ju Yang, Mei Po Yip, Susan Zhang, and Ping Zhou.
We had an overwhelming response to our paver and red envelope fundraising so we'll be extending the $100/paver pricing through May 12. Thank you to all who donated and purchased pavers! If you wish to purchase a paver before the price increases, click here. Red envelopes and paver forms are in the Main Office as well.
Bottom Line: We ARE Bellevue! You made us proud to be part of such a special celebration and community. Thank you one and ALL!!

CONFIDENTIAL DRUG & ALCOHOL SUPPORT GROUP
Parents Uknight: Next meeting May 9th, 7pm
@Newport Way Library, Bellevue
Guest Speakers will be Dr. Day and Frank Couch from the SAMA Foundation (Science and Management of Addiction) www.samafoundation.org/
A monthly support group of families with teenagers in Newport High School (and beyond) who have been touched by drugs and alcohol join forces at the grassroots level to combat the problem.
Are you concerned about teen drinking or drug use? Are you aware that age 13 is the average age that kids start drinking and that almost one quarter of high school seniors have engaged in binge drinking (5 or more drinks in a row)? Did you know that 40% of 14-17 year-olds who drink will become alcoholics and that number rises to 50% if the drinking starts before age 14? The average age that kids start smoking marijuana is 14 and 42% of 12 graders have tried marijuana. The use of Ecstacy/MDMA is becoming more popular for "hanging out" and its use is once again on the increase. After alcohol, marijuana and tobacco, over-the-counter prescriptions drugs (such as Vicodin, OxyContin, Xanax, Ritalin, Adderall) are among the most commonly abused drugs by 12th graders.
If your family has been touched by drugs or alcohol and/or these statistics concern you, you might be interested in Parents UKnight!
