Tell Kirk, principal at William Allen White/TPA and Jessica Griffin, principal at Logan Avenue, along with teachers from each school spoke to the Emporia School Board on their desire for their schools to explore the school redesign process for the 2019-20 school year.

Surplus Chromebooks for sale:
On July 9th beginning at 10:00 am, staff from the district Technology department will have surplus Chromebooks for sale at the Mary Herbert Education Center in the Boardroom.
  • Dell Gen 1 Chromebooks, 4 years old
  • 11 inch screen
  • $30 each
  • Cash or check only
2018-19 Enrollment:
Online enrollment for the 2018-19 school year will begin on July 16th and run through August 1st.  During this time, families will be able to enroll their student/s online by using the individualized code that will be mailed out on July 14th. Anyone needing assistance is encouraged to stop by Mary Herbert Education Center where staff will be available from 7:30 to 5:30, Monday - Friday.

The Back-to-School Breakfast and Convocation will be held on August 15th, at 7:30 am at Emporia High School.

Preschool Enrollment:
There are still slots available for 3-4 year old preschool students at Maynard Early Childhood Center. Simply go online to enrollment documents and print the application. Applications can then be returned to Maynard Early Childhood Center beginning July 9th from 8:30 -11:30. Call 341-2200 if you have questions.

Kindergarten Ramp Up:
If you know of children who will be attending kindergarten this fall and they did not attend preschool, please encourage their parents to sign them up for kindergarten ramp up. Kindergarten ramp up will be held July 16-20, at Riverside, William Allen White and Walnut. Two sessions will be offered: one from 10:00 am - 11:45 am and a second session from 12:15 pm - 2:00 pm.  To register, contact the student's school of attendance for fall 2018.

Board Approvals:
  • approved for the district to adopt both the Discovery Ed science techbook (grades K-12) and the Discovery Ed social studies techbook (grades 5-8) as the primary resource for science and social studies
  • approved acceptance of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant funds for Logan Avenue, Riverside, Walnut and William Allen White for 2018-19 with the district providing funds for the non-qualifying elementary schools to participate
  • approved the Master Contract for certified staff and the adjusted salary packages for all staff
  • approved 2018-19 staff handbooks for EHS, EMS, Pre K-Elementary and classified staff 
In Addition:
School Redesign Presentation: Representatives from Logan Avenue and William Allen White provided information regarding their interest in exploring the school redesign process for the 2019-20 school year. Teachers and administrators answered questions and explained how redesign would benefit students and families. Both schools will have a first draft of their redesign proposal to share with the board by November 1st.

Board Goal Setting Discussion: Dr. Doug Moeckel, Deputy Director of Kansas Association of School Boards, facilitated a work session regarding board goals. Members of the board and the administrative cabinet divided into groups to discuss the four themes generated from the recent board goal planning session. Those themes include: students and programs, communication and culture, personnel, and facilities/infrastructure. Board members and the administrative cabinet will review the newest information and continue the process of developing board goals for the district.
