District News:
Summer Paychecks:
April 1st is the deadline for employees to notify the Business Office if they want lump-sum payments for summer checks. Forms will be sent to all employees new to the district this year. Census 2020:
All households in Emporia will receive an invitation from the Census Bureau starting March 12th. You can take the census on the phone, online, or by mail. The process will only take 10 minutes, but it will help fund our community by bringing millions of dollars to pay for schools, childcare, health services, and other programs we all depend on. Everyone should be counted - no matter age, race, ethnicity or immigration status. Count everyone where they live on April 1st. Count ALL kids! Your answers are private, your name and address are separated from your form.

Build for the Future Executive Committee:
The committee met recently and received updates from Zach Snethen, HTK architect on the three construction projects that are currently being developed (EHS, Walnut, and the Early Learning Center). The committee discussed storm shelter options for EHS, floor elevations and food service delivery for Walnut, and appropriately sized space and funding for the Early Learning Center.
There will also be opportunities for local trade partners to learn more information about the upcoming construction projects. Interested companies are invited to attend an informational meeting on March 18th at 4:00 pm at Emporia High School hosted by McCownGordon Construction. Any questions should be directed to Charlie Ochs, Project Estimator, at cochs@mccowngordon.com
or 785-789-3100.
Cost Comparison for RecExtra:
Rob Schieb, Assistant Superintendent of Business provided a cost comparison to the board for the districts' afterschool care program, RecExtra. The report compared the current cost of RecExtra and what the cost to the district would look like if there were to be a change in fees. Approximately 767 elementary students participate in the program in the districts six elementary schools. The board members also discussed the possibilities of restructuring the fees and extending afterschool opportunities to include additional academic support for students.

The EOP continues to meet frequently to respond to current needs and additional information as it becomes available.
