Volunteer Appreciation Month

2026 Volunteer Appreciation Special Edition

Hello!

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and Keys to Change is eternally grateful for all of our volunteers who go above and beyond. Volunteers serve those experiencing homelessness with patience, kindness, and their physical presence...

·      They sweat at Project Connect.

·      They build their arm muscles folding clothes in the donation closet.

·      They stand and sort for hours in the mailroom.

·      The lend their expertise and time serving on the Board of Directors.

·      They hold collection drives and build heat relief kits.

Each hour given, each item collected and donated on our behalf, adds immeasurable value to the work of Keys to Change.

Thank you to these few examples of our stellar volunteers….

Board of Directors

Our board is made up of professionals from throughout Maricopa County whose primary desire is to see an end to homelessness. They are lawyers, community activists, finance experts, business owners, educators, veterans, and healthcare advocates.

As volunteers, they give their time, expertise, and leadership to guide our mission forward. With their help, our first Strategic Plan is in the works!

Issam Naim - ASU Intern

Through the ASU Action Nexus on Housing and Homelessness, ASU interns lend critical support to Key Campus all year round.

For his capstone project, Issam took on the brave task of managing a Project Connect event - from coordination to completion.

Issam brought thoughtfulness, reliability, and a genuine commitment to service to every step of the process. Thank you, Issam, for making such a meaningful impact!

Steve Davis - Mail Room

You may recognize Steve from his many years of involvement with the Campus - he's been with us since the start. Whether serving on the board or directing the Development department, Steve's heart for the work is unmatched!

These days, you'll catch him volunteering in the Key Campus mailroom, spending his retirement days sorting mail, bringing his unique brand of enthusiasm and warmth to every interaction. We appreciate you Steve!

Starbucks

Starbucks supports our street outreach efforts through generous grant funding - but they don't stop there!

Starbucks team leaders from branches across Arizona came together to build 955 heat relief kits.

Those team leads then returned to their branches with meaningful resources and information for their staff for interactions with the unhoused community - leading to a stronger safety net of community care!

Roxana - Project Connect

Roxana Galindo is a dedicated volunteer who regularly supports our Project Connect events, and plays a key leadership role by guiding other volunteers with her experience and knowledge. Project Connect is a high-energy, high-impact event - it's nice to have "super volunteers" who just "get it."

Roxana's reliability and willingness to support others make her an invaluable part of our team and we are so grateful!

Tim Wilke - Mail Room

Tim decided to volunteer with Key Campus after a chance encounter with Keys to Change staff at a farmer's market got him thinking more about how he spends his time.

Now, Tim's such an expert and reliable volunteer in the mail room, staff trust him to man the window solo while they tackle other important tasks.

From a chance encounter to meaningful, ongoing service. Twice a week - three and a half years and counting! Thanks Tim.

At Keys to Change, our motto is “Working Together. Ending Homelessness.” Working with volunteers makes our work lighter and way more fun. And together, we walk alongside our clients on their housing journey.

Thank you, Volunteers, for giving of your time and talents and really big hearts. You are making a difference!

If you haven't had a chance yet, now is the time to join Keys to Change and make a difference through volunteerism.
