Good News...you are in the home stretch-
AND 5 Days of Giveaways is BACK!
TREAT YOURSELF!

This year, the Development Office's Five Days of Giveaways is the Best Ever! Thanks to our generous Gala friends, we have amazing self-care prizes from some of our Auction sponsors.

Here's how it works: beginning next Wednesday, the Development Office will draw one name a week for five weeks. The pool of possible winners will be created with the names of every staff person who has given to the Annual Fund up to that point. As is true every year, our goal is 100% participation. And - the odds are the same for every donor.

Your job is caring for others...and this giveaway is all about caring for YOU! Each gift invites a little bit of pampering and comes with a Susan Brown original notecard so you can also pay a little appreciation forward with a note for another staff member.

Spotlight: Just WRIGHT for Hamm!
Like all of our Administrative Assistants, Cindi Wright's responsibilities and "other duties as assigned" are seemingly endless. The "front door" of Hamm for current and prospective Hammily members, when Cindi's not guiding parents as they navigate the application or on-boarding process, you will find her supporting every carpool, managing calendars, or placing an Amazon order for all School programs and staff. Unique to Cindi's role in Hamm is her additional management of the Center's Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and assisting families with insurance billing.

"In addition to her assigned responsibilities…Cindi also has many additional responsibilities that she knocks out of the park. She makes every individual who calls, emails, stops by her office, or passes her in the hall feel like the most important person on the planet. Cindi simply loves the Katherine Hamm Center extremely well and will do anything for our staff and families," said Erica Jones, the Director of the Katherine Hamm Center, when asked about Cindi.

What brought her to Hamm? Cindi's now18-year-old son, Hunter, attended the Katherine Hamm Center through his PreK year. He then became a “Hickeydoodle” in Kenan for his Kindergarten year. From there he enrolled in Cobb County schools and will graduate this May. He will be a Georgia State Panther in the Fall!

On the water is Cindi’s happy place. She lives on Lake Allatoona with her wife Hope, her son Hunter, and their dog Peanut where they soak up every sunrise and sunset.

Welcome, Incoming Director of Kenan, Brooke Hight!
Brooke Hight, left with Gina Elowe, already knows and loves the Speech School, where her son, Beau, attends the Hamm 3's inclusion class.

Brooke Hight has accepted our offer to join the School as the Director of the Anne & Jim Kenan Preschool, beginning this fall for the 2022-2023 school year.

Brooke comes to us from the Westminster Schools, where she is the Director of Teaching and Learning for Pre-first through 2nd grade. At Westminster, she mentors, coaches and supports lower school teachers to ensure collaboration and creativity in developing curriculum. Her experience in education spans more than 20 years, including the immediate eight years as a school leader. An alumna of the University of Georgia twice over, Brooke holds a Master’s in Education in Children’s Literature as well as a BS in Early Childhood Education. In addition, she is already part of the Speech School family – her son Beau is in a Hamm Center Preschool inclusion classroom. Therefore, she knows the work of the School and many of us know her. Brooke is incredibly generous in volunteering her time here at every opportunity, and our Hamm Center staff who interact with Brooke are overjoyed that she is joining us in her professional capacity.

Gina Elowe will work closely with Brooke in her new role as the Curriculum Specialist for Kenan. Welcome, Brooke!
Helping Near and Far - April 25-May 6
The Community Service Committee is excited to announce our spring school-wide service project. They will be collecting food items for local children who may experience food insecurity during the summer months. The Committee will be collecting cereal, macaroni and cheese, and juice boxes.

Additionally, they are collecting money for children in need in Ukraine. Some of this money will go to support a friend of Stephanie Young who lives in Ukraine and is helping to relocate women and children to safer areas.
Seeking Coaches!
Seeking coaches for Girls on the Run, Fall 2022

What is Girls on the Run?
A volunteer led program for girls in the 3rd-5th grade that inspires them to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The curriculum focuses on helping girls understand themselves, value relationships and teamwork, and recognize how they can shape the world at large.

Who can be a coach? Any adult here at school. And no, you don’t have to be an avid runner or even love running to be an amazing coach (says a past coach who is not a fan of running.) Past coaches have come from many areas of the School ranging from teachers to people in non-teaching roles such as the Development office.

What is required?  Other than someone who enjoys encouraging and empowering girls…the season runs from September through November and ends with an exciting 5k run the first weekend of December. The team will meet two days a week, typically Tuesday and Thursday, from 3:00 to 4:30. If we have enough coaches we can split the week among two teams of coaches so you only have to coach one day a week. GOTR provides the curriculum and materials so the hard part is done for you! You will show up, connect with the girls, work through the curriculum, and watch them flourish!
