Dear Members and Friends of Myers Park Baptist Church,
I am writing to let you know that Rev. Tara Gibbs has resigned from her role as Associate Minister of Spiritual Growth, with her last day being January 15.
During her time with us, Rev. Tara made meaningful contributions to our church community. In Youth Ministry, she launched creative programs such as the youth block experience, which combined games, community building, and diversity education, and created the annual homecoming tradition modeled after HBCUs. She reimagined youth-led worship services, developed a new discipleship program for youth seeking deeper faith exploration, and led multiple retreats that strengthened connections and growth within our youth community.
In addition to her work with youth, Rev. Tara enriched our adult ministries by creating Hush Harbor, an affinity group for people of color, leading Bible studies and small groups, and overseeing F21 (formerly J21). She also brought creativity and intention to worship, helping incorporate Black History Month into our services and preaching throughout the year.
We are grateful for Rev. Tara’s leadership, creativity, and dedication to MPBC, and we look forward to celebrating her ministry with our youth families in the coming weeks. To show our appreciation for Rev. Tara, we encourage you to contribute to a love offering. You can do so by visiting the Give page on our website or by clicking here. Choose "Rev. Gibbs Love Offering" from the Fund drop down menu.
During this time of transition, Rev. Carrie Veal will temporarily continue to oversee both Youth Ministry and adult faith formation.
Please join me in thanking Rev. Tara for her service to MPBC and wishing her well in her next chapter.
With gratitude,
Eva Bender
