Carbondale, CO – In alignment with Garfield County and in consultation with the Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District, the Town of Carbondale will implement Stage 1 Fire Restrictions effective Wednesday, June 10, 2026, due to increasing fire danger and dry conditions.
These restrictions are designed to reduce the risk of wildfires and ensure the safety of the community, visitors, and first responders.
The following restrictions are now in effect:
-
No smoking, except inside an enclosed vehicle or building, in a developed recreation site, or in a barren area at least 3 feet in diameter clear of vegetation.
-
No use of explosive materials, including fireworks, exploding targets, tracer rounds, or bullets.
-
No welding or operation of torches with open flame, except in areas cleared of vegetation within at least 30 feet and with proper safety measures in place.
-
No internal combustion engines (e.g. chainsaws, generators) may be operated without a properly installed and functioning spark arresting device.
-
Campfires are only allowed in permanent, in-ground fire grates or store-bought fire pits in developed areas. Temporary fire pans and rock campfire rings are not allowed.
-
The Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District Fire Chief may authorize specific fires deemed necessary and safe under current conditions.
- Always use extreme caution and follow safety protocols when welding or operating flame tools.
These restrictions were established in partnership with fire officials to proactively mitigate fire risk during peak wildfire season.
Community members are urged to remain vigilant and responsible during this period. These restrictions are subject to change depending on weather conditions and fire danger assessments.
