Carbondale, CO – Following Garfield County’s implementation of Stage 2 Fire Restrictions and in consultation with the Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District, the Town of Carbondale will move to Stage 2 Fire Restrictions effective Friday, June 26, 2026. These restrictions are being enacted due to increasingly dry conditions and elevated fire danger throughout the region.
Stage 2 Fire Restrictions prohibit or limit the following activities within the Town of Carbondale:

Fireworks – Not permitted.

Burn Permits – No new permits will be issued; all existing burn permits are canceled.

Recreational Fires – Not allowed under any circumstances.

Cooking Fires – Permitted with extreme caution:
- Gas grills – Allowed, no permit required.
- Charcoal or solid fuel grills/cookers – Allowed only in developed areas, no permit required.
- All cooking devices must be in good working order and monitored while in use.

Smoking – Allowed only in developed areas. In undeveloped areas, smoking is only permitted inside enclosed vehicles or buildings.
- Welding and Cutting Torches (Hot Work):
- In developed areas – Use extreme caution and follow all safety precautions.
- In undeveloped areas – Industrial use only. Must have a permit, be in a 10-foot cleared area, have a lookout, and Class A fire extinguishing capabilities available.

Combustion Engines (e.g., chainsaws, generators) – Prohibited unless the equipment has a working spark-arresting device, and Class A fire extinguishing equipment and a round-point shovel are readily available.

Tractors, mowers, and other internal combustion equipment – Operate with extreme caution, especially in dry grass and weeded areas.

Explosives and tracer/steel-core bullets – Strictly prohibited.

Firearm Use – Tracer and armor-piercing rounds are banned.
Residents and visitors are urged to stay alert and use common sense when outdoors. These restrictions aim to prevent human-caused wildfires and protect the safety of the community and surrounding environment.
