If you haven't yet seen this two-act show about about America's favorite pastime, there's still time. But don't wait too long - you have just 10 more opportunities to see this double bill at Cape May Stage.

Starting with Becoming Satchel Paige, written by playwright Dan McCormick and starring Jesse N. Holmes, and followed by Happy, written by Emmy award-winner and veteran Saturday Night Live writer, Alan Zweibel, and starring Michael Basile, "Double Play" ends its run on Sunday, June 26th. You don't want to miss this baseball-inspired double header that the Cape May Star and Wave called a theatrical "Home Run"!

In the Spotlight

Victor Keen & Jeanne Ruddy

Victor Keen and Jeanne Ruddy have been supporters of Cape May Stage for more than 10 years. As lead producers in our Producers Circle, they have helped to fund a long list of performances over the years. And as dedicated patrons of the arts, Victor and Jeanne love to attend shows whenever they are in town. When asked about their all-time favorite play at Cape May Stage, they said they didn't have one. Instead, they had ten! Their favorites include: Red; 39 Steps; I Hate Hamlet; Happy Days; Disgraced; Buyer and Cellar; Dead Man’s Cell Phone; Moon Over Buffalo; Other Desert Cities; and Mistakes Were Made.

Here are a few more fun facts about this month's spotlight patrons:

  • Victor has been a practicing attorney for more than 40 years; he is currently "of counsel" at Duane Morris LLP.
  • Jeanne is a former Martha Graham Dance Company Principal Dancer and a former Juilliard Dance faculty member.
  • Together, Victor and Jeanne co-founded The Performance Garage, an incubator for dance classes, rehearsals, workshops and performances in Philadelphia.
  • In addition to Cape May Stage, Victor contributes to the cultural community through board memberships with The Philadelphia Theater Company, The Philadelphia Film Society, and PlayPenn, Inc. He also served on the board of the Kimmel Center.

Thanks to Victor and Jeanne along with all of our other generous donors, patrons, and friends of Cape May Stage, we are able to continue to bring engaging and award-winning theater to the nation's oldest seaside resort. We rely on your donations to help us to attract talented actors, secure the rights to thought-provoking plays, and hire skilled designers. All of which would not be possible without your continued support!

Did You Know?

Did you know that Cape May Stage has been a professional equity theater since its inception in 1988? Its “equity” affiliation means that the theater is a member of Actors’ Equity, a union for professional actors that protects performers’ rights and governs the terms by which member theaters can work with equity actors.

“Cape May Stage is not just a bonafide Jersey Shore theatrical treasure, it’s also a vital part of professional equity theater in this country,” said  Pulitzer-Prize-winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis, an alumnus of Cape May Stage's National Playwright Symposium.

“The distinction of being an equity professional theater versus a community theater is critical to the mission of Cape May Stage,” said Kate Hathaway, an actor and producer on Broadway and Cape May stages, and a former member of the theater’s board. “Our mission is to produce the finest, most thought-provoking, contemporary theater in Cape May using professional actors.”
