Stand And Wait!!! 10/5/22
1 Samuel 30:24 (KJV)
24 For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.
“SO SHALL HIS PART BE THAT TARRIETH BY THE STUFF: THEY SHALL PART ALIKE!!”
In the above TRUE Story, David and his soldiers had just returned home only to discover that in their absence the enemy had captured their wives and children and stolen all their STUFF!
These same soldiers were FURIOUS-not only with the enemy but with David their leader.
They immediately decided to pursue the captors and were victorious in reclaiming all their families and their STUFF.
The dissent, however, was concerning the SPOILS of victory-who got what???
David wisely declared the above:
“SO SHALL HIS PART BE THAT TARRIETH BY THE STUFF: THEY SHALL PART ALIKE!!”
One of my favorite poems was written by John Milton (1608-1674).
When I consider how my light is spent,
E’re half my days, in this dark world and wide,
And that one Talent which is death to hide,
Lodg’d with me useless, though my Soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest he returning chide,
Doth God exact day-labour, light deny’d?
I fondly ask; But patience to prevent
That murmur, soon replies, God doth not need
Either man’s work or his own gifts, who best
Bear his milde yoak, they serve him best, his State
Is Kingly. Thousands at his bidding speed
And post o’re Land and Ocean without rest:
They also serve who only stand and waite.
The author of this poem was stricken with blindness half way in his life. He was devastated (OF COURSE!!)
It certainly was not how HE would have planned his life!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where was God???
AMEN!!??
We all make PLANS for our lives and that is commendable, but.......................................

9 A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
NOBODY knows what tomorrow holds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a long time Pastor I have LEARNED that planning for tomorrows rarely work out as planned.
And yes, the old adage is true:
“I DON'T KNOW ABOUT TOMORROW BUT I DO KNOW WHO HOLDS TOMORROW!”
But that is the TRUTH-Only God knows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know about you, but myself, personally, I never dreamed the “paths” God has led me on.
I never dreamed I would be, at this juncture of life, where I am and the condition of my life............................
I had it all figured out!! I had PLANS and I had made plans.
I tried to wisely cover all my bases.................... Can YOU hear me?????
But then TOMORROW happens and our plans go out the window!!
UNEXPECTED blessings and trials happen to us all!!
And often times-as with John Milton-all we CAN do is “STAND AND WAIT!!!!”

Upon his first day of work, he received his instructions:
“Here is your desk, pen and paper, telephone and computer. Your job is to sit here and answer when I call.”
The entire day passed with no communication and upon leaving his desk he stopped by the bosses office with his complaint-NOBODY CALLED OR NEEDED ME ALL DAY TODAY?????????????????
The Boss quietly reminded him of his job description:
“THEY ALSO SERVE WHO ONLY STAND AND WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
