In 1991, Jeanna Yetter came to our domestic violence shelter after a severe beating by her abuser. She was courageous, strong-willed, and determined to rebuild her life. Over the months, she engaged in counseling, focused on her recovery, and worked to create a safe, healthy home for herself and her daughter, Kayla.
Tragically, Jeanna was murdered by her abuser two months after leaving the shelter. Her story is heartbreaking, but it also highlights the urgency of protecting survivors and offering them the support they need to escape abusive relationships safely.
Jeanna's legacy lives on in our programs, including Kayla's Place, named in honor of her daughter. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we remember Jeanna and reaffirm our commitment to advocating for survivors, raising awareness about domestic violence, and providing safe spaces for those in need.
