Please Approve Standard Enhanced Services | This past week, you should have received a combined proposal for our 2026 standard enhanced services, including Spring Moss Control, Spring Flowers, Crabgrass Preventer Application, Turf Core Aeration, Fall Flowers, and Winter Moss and Cranefly Control. As property maintenance budgets are approved, we invite you to provide advance approval for these routine services all at once. While each service will still be individually proposed prior to its season, we have introduced a bulk approval form at the start of the year to reduce the need for multiple approvals. This new approach—sent out last week—helps save time for everyone and allows us to better plan and prepare for timely, high-quality service delivery. | Spring Turf Moss Control in March/April | |
Winter can be a challenging time for lawns. Persistent rain—especially in shaded areas—creates ideal conditions for moss growth, something we contend with every year. While moss is difficult to prevent entirely, it is fortunately easy to control. A liquid iron application quickly and effectively eliminates moss, often killing it within hours and turning it black. Because moss naturally reestablishes, annual treatment is typically required.
In recent years, we’ve been experimenting with a twice-yearly approach, applying treatments in December/January and again in March/April. Although moss control is normally considered an enhanced service, it is relatively inexpensive. Even when treated in winter, moss can return, making a follow-up spring application an effective way to maintain healthier turf heading into the growing season.

Seasonal color is one of our specialties. We don’t just produce vibrant flower displays—we deliver some of the healthiest seasonal plantings through carefully designed installation and maintenance programs that support long-term performance.
Each spring, we bring a creative design flair to our seasonal color program by developing fresh, unique plant combinations that move beyond the traditional blocks and stripes commonly seen on commercial properties. At our office test beds, we trial new varieties and layouts to ensure they thrive and perform as intended. Only combinations that meet our standards are installed on our clients’ properties, ensuring proven results, standout aesthetics, and consistent quality throughout the season. https://www.pacscape.com/services/seasonal-enhanced-services/seasonal-color.php
| Crabgrass Preventer Application in May | |
“Crabgrass” is often a catch-all term used to describe any unwanted grass in a lawn, but true crabgrass has historically been uncommon in the Pacific Northwest. In much of the country with hotter summers, crabgrass is a common annual weed; however, our traditionally cooler climate has kept it largely in check.
In recent years, this has changed. Warmer temperatures and extended hot summers—conditions crabgrass thrives in—have led to a noticeable increase in crabgrass across many local properties, including areas where it was previously rare or nonexistent. As a result, we are now recommending proactive crabgrass prevention treatments in May, similar to standard practices in warmer regions. This pre-emergent approach helps prevent crabgrass from germinating and becoming established, protecting turf quality throughout the growing season.
| Turf Core Aeration in September | |
We recommend aeration as a standard component of our annual turf care program. Aeration improves overall turf health and is one of the most effective methods for managing thatch buildup and soil compaction. By opening up the soil profile, aeration allows water, air, and nutrients to penetrate more easily—reducing runoff and improving irrigation efficiency. While difficult to quantify, we believe these improvements often allow aeration to pay for itself through water savings alone.
Although the benefits of aeration are significant, they are short-lived and typically last only one growing season. For this reason, we recommend aeration annually to maximize both water efficiency and return on investment. In the past, aeration was performed in early summer; however, with the addition of a May crabgrass preventer application, summer aeration could reduce the effectiveness of that treatment. As a result, we now schedule aeration in September, when it delivers optimal results without interfering with weed control.

Winter flowers can be challenging to maintain in our mild, wet climate. Despite being cold-hardy, many winter annuals—particularly pansies—are susceptible to soil-borne diseases that thrive during prolonged wet conditions. Without proper installation and ongoing care, these diseases can significantly reduce plant health, limit growth, and in some cases cause complete plant loss.
Our winter flower displays stand out because of a carefully developed program that addresses these challenges from start to finish. This begins with how the flowers are grown, followed by the use of fresh, sterile potting soil at installation. Throughout the winter season, we proactively apply fungicide treatments to protect against disease pressure. As a result, we consistently produce some of the healthiest and most reliable pansy displays in the area. https://www.pacscape.com/services/seasonal-enhanced-services/seasonal-color.php
| Winter Turf Moss and Cranefly Control in December | |

Our moss control program begins in winter, when moss first develops; if left untreated, moss can spread quickly and choke out turf over the winter months. https://www.pacscape.com/services/seasonal-enhanced-services/
