We Are All In This Together

Todos Estamos Juntos en Esto

Families across our city and our neighborhoods are dealing with the fear of the unknown, the uncertainty of what comes next. This includes the challenge of paying for everyday necessities of life — groceries, utilities, rent, transportation, medicine, and more.

At ELAWC, we are showing up to deliver the support and resources survivors and families need now as our communities contend with unfathomable decisions and persevere in increasingly difficult circumstances.

You Can Make an Impact Today

In response to the growing hardships of our community, we’ve activated our Rapid Response Fund to provide urgent assistance directly to individuals and families. These flexible funds help cover essential needs such as food, household supplies, and other essential living costs.

Will you make a difference today? Every dollar goes directly toward helping a neighbor get through a difficult day and reminds survivors they are seen, supported, and never alone.

A Day of Healing, Beauty, and Belonging

ELAWC hosted our annual Mother’s Day celebration on May 12—an unforgettable day dedicated to honoring the love, labor, and resilience of mothers, caregivers, and maternal figures in our community.

The day was filled with joy and connection as guests were treated to a day of self-care with health screenings, manicures, professional massages, beautiful hairstyles by master stylists, and makeup by renowned artists who generously shared their talents.

More than a day of pampering—it was a powerful reminder that survivors deserve beauty, rest, and recognition. Thank you to our incredible volunteers for helping create a day filled with dignity, empowerment, and love.

Thank you for all the generous support from: Lorena Padilla, Amalia Donaji, Fernanda Ballesteros, Lety Medina, KC Image Studio, Dalia Jimenez of DD’s Beauty Spa, Sephora Mi Gente, Gracelight Community Health, Sandra Gutierrez, Adriana Marmolejo, Katie Oropeza, and Sonia Fierro of Lineage.

A Place To Call Home

In July 2024, a young mother and her 16-month-old baby were referred to ELAWC by a local hospital after experiencing nearly two years of homelessness. With nowhere safe to turn, they arrived at our emergency shelter—taking the first courageous step toward stability and healing.

During a 3-week stay, our team provided compassionate care and critical referrals to address the baby’s complex health needs.

Moving into our Transitional Housing program, she received continued case management, transportation and housing support. A dedicated ELAWC case manager stood by her side every step of the way—helping navigate services, complete vital applications, and connect her baby to Regional Center for ongoing developmental care.

After months of determination, guidance, and trust, this resilient mother and her child moved into their very own studio apartment on July 2, 2025. In less than a year, with the help of our Housing Navigators, she secured permanent housing—building the foundation for a safer, healthier future. Thanks to the generosity of kind supporters, her child also received a specialized car seat, ensuring they can safely attend medical appointments.

Their journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when compassion meets action—and why your support truly changes lives.

Youth Summit 2025

ELAWC hosted the annual Empower and Create Youth Summit on May 17. Designed for high school students, the event brought together youth from across the community to explore leadership and life skills, healthy relationships, and creative expression. Through dynamic workshops and engaging discussions in a vibrant and safe space participants built connections, uplifted each other, and developed tools to inspire change in their schools and communities.

Save the Date | Sept. 18

Join us for a special screening of Las Promotoras Against Violence, an inspiring and deeply moving documentary produced by our partner, Juan Escobedo.

The film shines a light on the courageous women of ELAWC’s groundbreaking Promotora program—survivors of domestic violence who have turned their trauma into a powerful force for healing and change.

By meeting women where they are—in their homes, families, and daily lives—Promotoras foster meaningful connections, educate, and inspire life-changing choices. Their impact is profound, and their stories will move and motivate you.

Bridging the Gap

Healthcare professionals are often the first point of contact for survivors, putting them in a critical position to recognize signs of abuse and offer support.

ELAWC and LA General Medical Center are building on our a deep partnership to continually improve how medical professionals respond to domestic violence within the community

To address a need for trauma-informed training at LA General Medical Center, ELAWC has produced a new training video: Bridging the Gap: Identifying and Responding to Domestic Violence. This training strengthens providers’ ability to detect domestic violence and respond with compassion, safety, and effective interventions.

Watch for the release on ELAWC's YouTube channel in September.
