Stanford Shield Installed in the Atrium 

The Stanford shield was recently installed on the atrium wall of the new Stanford Hospital.

The Stanford shield and Stanford Hospital name are now prominently displayed on the atrium wall of the new Stanford Hospital.

Additional items completed in the atrium include installation of the terrazzo flooring, the limestone wall, wood ceiling, casework and the information desk. The atrium will also feature two site-specific, commissioned sculptures. The first work by artist Zadok Ben-David has been installed; prep-work is currently underway for the installation by the artist James Carpenter.

10 Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities

The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway. Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. New Stanford Hospital Facility
December 2012 - 2019

Work is under way to construct the new Stanford Hospital facility in order to accommodate advances in medical technology, increase capacity and meet new seismic safety standards. The 824,000 square foot hospital includes 368 individual patient rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment rooms, an expanded Emergency Department, new employee parking structure, five gardens, walking trails and a meditation room. The new hospital is expected to open for patient care in fall of 2019.

What to expect this weekend (4/13 - 4/14) 

Interior construction will continue this Saturday and Sunday, including flooring, ceiling, painting, air balancing, as well as mechanical, electrical and plumbing connections. 

Landscaping and paving continues.

Weekday Work (4/15 - 4/19)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 3 pm for regular construction.  

The interior of the hospital is progressing with wood ceiling installation, flooring, painting and lighting fixtures. Furniture installation continues. The liquid light work in the atrium progresses. Cafeteria work continues with quartz counter tops.

Medical equipment installation and deployment continues.  Nurse call system testing is underway. Activation of cellular coverage is in progress. Deployment activities continue with end user devices, telephony and audio visual. Medical gas verification starts.
  
On the exterior, landscaping continues. At the plaza, the kiosk structural steel starts. Dog park plumbing begins.

What to expect next weekend (4/20 - 4/21) 
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 3 pm

Interior finish construction is expected to continue next weekend.

School of Medicine BioMedical Innovations Building
January 2017 - Late 2019

The BioMedical Innovations Building (BMI) will be a state-of-the-art facility that fully supports the talent and vision of the School of Medicine to translate medical research discoveries into treatments and cures. The new building will be approximately 215,500 square-feet with four above-grade floors of research labs and light-filled gathering places, and a lower basement level with reduced functional square footage for utility support. A connective tunnel to other nearby research facilities is part of the proposed design.

What to expect this weekend (4/13 - 4/14) 
Hours of Construction Activity: 9 am to 5 pm for regular construction

Interior and exterior work continues on Saturdays, and the site is closed on Sundays. No construction impacts are expected this weekend.

Weekday Work (4/15 - 4/19)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 5 pm for regular construction

Interior work progresses including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, walls, frames, doors, painting, flooring, ceiling tiles, fire sprinklers and elevators. Counter tops, lockers and lab casework started. Security and audio visual work is ongoing. Data cabling continues. Major electrical gear connections are in progress. 

On the exterior glazing, stone patching and excavating are ongoing.

One lane of South Pasteur is now within the construction site fence to accommodate site work.  

What to expect next weekend (4/20 - 4/21) 
Hours of Construction Activity: 9 am to 5 pm for regular construction

No construction impacts are expected next weekend.

General Reminders

Motorists: please be mindful of sharing the road with bicyclists. 

 

Consider alternatives to driving, including Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle, biking, carpooling, and transit. Try the do-it-yourself commute planning tool.

 

Cyclists: please be mindful of sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians. Those who choose not to share the road and use the sidewalks must walk their bicycles.

 

Pedestrians: must use the new designated crosswalks on Welch Road. Jaywalking is illegal and especially unsafe in active construction areas. Thank you!
