10 Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities

The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway. Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. New Stanford Hospital Facility

December 2012 - 2019

Work is under way to construct the new Stanford Hospital facility in order to accommodate advances in medical technology, increase capacity and meet new seismic safety standards. The 824,000 square foot hospital includes 368 individual patient rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment rooms, an expanded Emergency Department, new employee parking structure, five gardens, walking trails and a meditation room. The new hospital is expected to open for patient care in fall of 2019.

What to expect this weekend (9/14 - 9/15)

There will be a stop of all construction activities in the building for opening events.

Weekday Work (9/16 - 9/20)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 3 pm for regular construction.

The interior of the hospital is progressing with punch list items

and paint. Nurse call dome lights installation is underway. Terminal cleaning is ongoing.

Medical equipment installation continues and is approximately 98% complete on all levels. Furniture installation is ongoing. Deployment activities continue with end user devices, telephony and audio visual. Framed artwork installation is underway throughout the building.

The coffee kiosk on level 3, cellular and wifi are complete. Nurse call system testing continues.

On the exterior, moat pan installation and landscaping under the bridge are ongoing. The dog park is complete.

School of Medicine BioMedical Innovations Building

January 2017 - Late 2019

The BioMedical Innovations Building (BMI) will be a state-of-the-art facility that fully supports the talent and vision of the School of Medicine to translate medical research discoveries into treatments and cures. The new building will be approximately 215,500 square-feet with four above-grade floors of research labs and light-filled gathering places, and a lower basement level with reduced functional square footage for utility support. A connective tunnel to other nearby research facilities is part of the proposed design.

The site is open on Saturday and closed on Sunday.

Weekday Work (9/16 - 9/20)

Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 5 pm for regular construction

Interior work progresses including mechanical, electrical, doors, painting, flooring, ceiling and elevator start-up. Wood handrails, signage and smoke screens are ongoing. Installation of the glass entry continues. Security and audio visual continue. Fire alarm start-up is in progress.

On the exterior, metal panels and wood ceilings progress. Concrete work, light pole fittings and site handrails continue. Jordan Way pavers and curbs are ongoing. Planting continues.

What to expect next weekend (9/21 - 9/22)

Hours of Construction Activity: 9 am to 5 pm for regular construction

The site is open on Saturday and closed on Sunday.

General Reminders

Motorists: please be mindful of sharing the road with bicyclists.

Consider alternatives to driving, including Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle, biking, carpooling, and transit. Try the do-it-yourself commute planning tool.

Cyclists: please be mindful of sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians. Those who choose not to share the road and use the sidewalks must walk their bicycles.

Pedestrians: must use the new designated crosswalks on Welch Road. Jaywalking is illegal and especially unsafe in active construction areas. Thank you!
