Engage. Educate. Empower. | | |
Dear Star Center Families,
What an exciting beginning to this school year! Our students have settled into classroom routines and embraced new learning opportunities, including lessons from our new math curriculum. Students have shared their knowledge from beginning-of-the-year assessments so teachers can design lessons that best meet the needs of all students. Read more about intervention and iReady in the newsletter below.
Star Center students are not only growing academically, but also enjoying their school experience. Students are loving the new playground, extracurriculars, and CKLA Unit One celebrations. We are excited to create a year full of discovery, achievement, and lasting moments. We appreciate all of your support and are looking forward to a great year!
With excitement,
Mrs. Jenn Chironis

Our students have been enjoying their outdoor recess time on Star Center’s amazing new playground! To ensure the students are both having fun and staying safe, our staff has gradually introduced the new equipment and the expectations for use. While doing so, we have been careful to follow the industry guidelines provided by the manufacturer for age and safety when establishing the expectations. The students are doing an excellent job learning the safest ways to use our new playground equipment and are now able to enjoy all aspects of the new equipment. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigated these exciting new changes.
| |
Important Reminder
Please keep in mind that bringing balls from home to school is not permitted. Each grade level has a designated bag of balls available for use during recess on the playground.
Additionally, ensure that your child does not bring personal toys or fidgets to school, such as stuffed animals, Needohs, dumplings, backpack keychains and similar items. These objects are quickly becoming sources of distraction and disruption in the learning environment.
| |
At Star Center, we dedicate two important parts of our day to intervention time—a half-hour each for reading and math. This time is designed to help every child grow academically! We organize students into flexible, grade-level groups that provide extra practice and support, intentionally focusing on the specific areas each student needs most. Your child might work with their classroom teacher or get to know another wonderful Star Center teacher during this time.
Here’s what makes intervention time so special: our team meets regularly to review data from iReady assessments, classroom work, and unit tests. Together, we thoughtfully create groups that target each student’s needs. The best part? These groups are always changing! As your child grows and masters new skills, they move to different groups that match where they are right now.
The goal is simple: challenge and support every student so they get exactly what they need to thrive. It’s one more way we’re working together to help your child reach their full potential!

Volunteer Information
Act 89
| |
Parents and Guardians,
Starting with the 2026–27 school year, all school volunteers must complete Wisconsin Act 89 training (the process is outlined below) and submit a background check authorization every three years. Please complete these steps before your first volunteer activity.
WHO NEEDS TO COMPLETE THIS:
Anyone who volunteers in any capacity, including but not limited to:
In the classroom:
- Reading buddies and tutoring
- Classroom helpers
- Library helpers
- Copying, laminating, or prepping teacher materials
At events and activities:
- Field trip chaperones
- School dances, carnivals, and fun fairs
- Fundraisers
- Concerts, plays, and performances
- After-school clubs
- PTO events
HOW TO COMPLETE THE REQUIREMENTS:
Option 1:
-
Submit your background check authorization by printing and returning it to the school's main office.
-
Complete the training: Grooming and Personal Boundaries Training for School Staff - Act 89. You will need to register to create a free account on the DPI site.
-
Pass the assessment. After reviewing the materials, you'll take an assessment and must score at least 80% to pass. Important: Download your completion certificate.
-
Complete this brief form, which includes uploading your completion certificate.
Option 2:
- Contact your child's school's main office to schedule a time to complete the training on-site via a video presentation.
- Complete your background check authorization during the same visit.
** Upcoming Opportunity for Option 2 will occur at Star Center Elementary on October 6, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
We understand that this process is inconvenient; however, these steps are a part of a recently passed WI state law and an important part of keeping our students safe. Training helps every adult in our buildings recognize the warning signs of grooming and understand appropriate boundaries with students, so we all share the responsibility of protecting children. Thank you for your time and for helping create a safe, supportive environment where students can learn and thrive.

Our PTO is only as strong as the families who step up to support it. Without volunteers willing to serve as officers, there will be no PTO. We are currently looking for parents/guardians who are willing to serve in the following positions for the upcoming PTO year:
President
- Serves as the leader and primary point of contact for the PTO
- Presides over PTO meetings
- Acts as the liaison between the PTO and the school principal
- Oversees the executive board
Vice President
- Acts as an aide to the President
- Steps in for the President when needed
- Helps oversee special committees and fundraising efforts
Secretary
- Maintains official PTO records
- Prepares meeting agendas and minutes
- Shares documentation with PTO members and school administration
You do NOT need to have prior PTO experience to run! If you are willing to volunteer your time, work as part of a team, and help make a difference for our students and staff, we would love to have you consider stepping up.
Want to be added to the ballot?
Please email starcenterpto@gmail.com by Tuesday, October 6th to be added to the ballot.
Missed the deadline? You can also be a write-in candidate on election night!
Elections will be held at our October PTO meeting:
Thursday, October 8th at 5:15 PM
The PTO plays an important role in supporting our students, teachers, and school community. But we cannot continue without officers. We truly need our families to step up and help keep the PTO going.
Please consider volunteering for one of these positions. Without you, there will be no PTO.
Thank you for supporting Star Center and our kids!

| | Walworth County Food Resources | | We are once again asking that children bring their own individual snacks and water bottles. Students are welcome to bring store-bought birthday treats and special event snacks. We do have fill stations at the drinking fountains throughout the building so students can refill their water bottles. No worries if your child does not have a water bottle, as the drinking fountains will be accessible, as needed. | | |
One of the biggest ways you can help your child succeed this school year is to make sure your child gets to school on time (between 8:20-8:35 a.m.) each and every day. The evidence is clear: children with good attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement. Every day counts, and missing school even 10% of the time has a significant negative impact on reading and math achievement as children progress through school. We want to ask for your commitment to making sure your child attends school every day possible this year.
When your child does have to be absent from school, we ask that you communicate with us about the absence. When your child will be absent, you have two communication options:
Call or email Mrs. Aronson in the main office at 262-348-7000 to speak with her and/or leave a message by 9:30 AM each day.
You may log in to PowerSchool to record the reason for your child’s absence. Please see the directions linked here.
We also ask that you let us know about pre-planned absences, including vacations and doctor appointments, ahead of time. When missing school for an appointment, it is always encouraged that you get documentation of your visit to provide to the school as verification. When leaving for an extended vacation (3 or more days), we also ask that you complete the Planned Absence Request Form. This form can be obtained from Mrs. Aronson in the office.
Lastly, please also note that, as a school, we are required to track student attendance and support families with any attendance issues or concerns. Our highest priority is to have students at school, and we are willing to help in any way we can. As a parent, it is important to understand the current State of Wisconsin attendance laws stated below:
A parent or guardian may only excuse their child/children for 10 days during the school year, including doctor visits. After these 10 days, an absence can only be excused if the school is provided with a note from a doctor, dentist, court, etc. The same guidelines apply to excessive tardies.
Once a student has been absent for 7 days (excused or unexcused), parents/guardians will receive a letter noting the absences as well as procedures for the next steps to improve attendance.
Thank you in advance for your commitment and support to your child’s attendance this school year.
| | When to Send Your Child to School or Keep Them Home? | | |
At Lake Geneva Schools, we know that regular attendance is key to academic success! Being in class daily helps students build strong habits, stay engaged, and gain valuable social skills. However, we also want to maintain a healthy, germ-free learning environment.
Use this guide (https://bit.ly/healthyLGS) to help decide when your child should attend school or stay home to recover. If your child has a fever over 100.4°F, vomiting, or diarrhea in the last 24 hours, it's best for them to rest at home. For minor symptoms like a runny nose, if there’s no fever, they’re ready for class!
When in doubt, contact the school health office, and let's work together to keep everyone healthy and learning!
Wisconsin Respiratory Viral Report is a great way to see Respiratory Illness trends in both the State of Wisconsin and different Regions of Wisconsin. If your child is diagnosed with a Respiratory Illness, please update their building health office and keep home until they are well enough to be in class and ready to learn.
