The Planning Department is Going Digital

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about many changes at the SCRPC. As of February 2021, all monthly project plans for the Subdivision Review Subcommittee meeting placed on the SCRPC website for reviewing agencies This transition was implemented in part due to the better efficiency of emailing, increased work from home status, increases in postage costs, delays in mail delivery, and to reduce the environmental waste of hard copies. This transition has been a welcomed change for RPC staff, plan preparers and reviewing agencies.

Stormwater Education

This past year we've all worked hard to keep ourselves and others healthy. Now, what can we do to keep our water healthy? "Stop Pollution Quick, Don't Make the Water Sick" is this year's theme for the Stark County Public Involvement/Public Education (P.I.P.E.) Committee's stormwater education program.

SCATS Utilized New Public Engagement Strategy for
"Moving Stark Forward 2050"


In order to involve the public of Stark County in all stages of developing the Long Range Plan, SCATS decided to utilize a modern method of crowdsourcing in order to supplement the project list of the 2050 long-term transportation plan. "Moving Stark Forward 2050" received a supplementary website (still available at tinyurl.com/movingstarkforward) that serves a variety of different benefits to both members of the public interested in the plan as well as SCATS: informing the public on the planning process, showing off the current proposed projects, supplying an interactive application where users could suggest their own transportation improvements and to place their ideas directly on an online map, and hosting the draft of the plan currently available for public comment.

"Moving Stark Forward 2050" Transportation Plan
Every four years, SCATS staff update the long-range plan. While the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a working plan for the next four years, the Transportation Plan has a minimum plan horizon of 20 years, making it a conceptual plan of how we envision movement of people and goods in Stark County in the future. This plan marks the first time that the plan horizon has been extended to 2050, midway through the 21st century. How do we see movement in our future, what have residents expressed about their needs and wants, what trends in transportation and planning can we expect to see as we move toward 2050?

The Stark County Area Transportation Study (SCATS) receives planning funds from the Federal Highway Administration to carry out their core planning responsibilities as well as studying a number of other issues countywide and within our local communities.

These studies can include a variety of transportation issues including safety, economic development, accessibilty and multi-modal needs, historic and environmental transportation related issues, improving the resiliency and reliability of the transportation system, reducing or mitigating stormwater impacts of surface transportation and enhancing travel and tourism.
